About Me

Hey there, I'm Max!
I graduated from German high school this year and next year I hope to start a physics (or math) degree at a US college (wish me luck with the application process!). In the half year that is left of my gap year, I would love to get around some more.
I geek out on all the typical nerdy things: science, Anime, comics, board and video games, you name it. However, I would like to believe that there is also another, more active side to me: I love playing volleyball, have picked up drumming a while ago, and I'm always down to go to some clubs. In other words, if you want to have a deep philosophical conversation, I'm all for it, but if you prefer to go party deep into the night I will absolutely tag along, too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always been fascinated with different cultures, especially languages, so I figured I might use that fascination and travel around some more, perhaps learn some languages that way. Also, having friends all around the world is a huge dream of mine, and one I want to work towards as early as possible.
I am not the most extroverted, so sometimes I need a little push to get out of my shell, and living with someone for a day or two seems like the perfect excuse. For all the chemists out there: I'm like an exothermic reaction, and sharing the same roof with someone acts as my activation energy. As a good catalyst, I can recommend some booze ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

I can enjoy most music, though I'm infamously bad at knowing the lyrics to otherwise popular songs. A couple of years ago I was very much into rap and hip-hop, and I still listen to it every now and then, but there's also a ton of loud rock and inversely quiet melancholic guitar music (the latter is all thanks to Life is Strange's influence).

As for shows and books, I mostly watch and read them to learn a language, as I'm a big believer in the immersion approach to language learning. So for the longest time now, my main intake has been Anime and Manga, but every evening I set aside at least an hour to read something I'm interested in; no matter the language and genre (mostly fiction, though). However, a non-negotiable for me is watching a show in the original language!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I got to discuss physics with a Physics Nobel laureate on my school's podcast, so let that be a testament to my nerdiness

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to become a professor one day so if there's something sciencey or linguistic you need help with I'll give you free tutoring lessons!
Curiosity is perhaps the one characteristic that everyone who knows me can agree on. So no matter what it is that you can share with me, I will be glad to learn all about it! (Bonus points if you help me finally learn to cook)

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you need someone to jump out of bed at 6 am and wake you up, look no further! I have consistently taken my profession as a motivator and morning alarm on school trips seriously and if you're up to it we can exercise together as well. (User notice: these functions require sufficient sleep at night)
Of course, I'm always happy to sleep in if you're more of a morning grumpy kind of guy. :)
