About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Playing the banjo, while breakdancing and longboardng at the same time.

Working to perform and host at music festivals around BC.

ABOUT ME

Shucks, thanks for asking. Musician at heart, pay the bills primarily with teaching banjo and guitar, touring and performing takes up a good deal of my time.

My hobbies include longboarding, cooking, yoga, reading, breakdancing and camping. I'm committed to spiritual practice, meditation and compassion.

I've completed a university degree and was focused on building my music teaching career at the same time. Now that school is done, I get to fill my life with writing, recording and performing music, my true passions. If I contact you, it's probably because I hope to perform in your community.

PHILOSOPHY

The true nature of reality is understood through direct experience. My truth lies in creating inner peace through mediation and pondering the connected nature of existence, which then flows out to my work, art, relationships and every detail of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My participation with couch surfing is really just beginning now that I'm booking my own music tours. My hope is that I'll be able to share my music, culinary skills and affable companionship with hosts around the world. The generosity I've experienced so far prompts me to take a more active role to welcome visitors in Ottawa (even if just for a coffee because I live in a tiny apartment).

I intend on inviting hosts to my concerts as guests and I'm totally into jamming with any musical types in their networks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While in Vancouver I stayed with a close pal and he was an avid CS host. A lovely Norwegian girls named Amelia stayed with us, we had a grand time and it turned me onto this community.

My couch surfing experiences have been more informal, staying with friends, which I love. I love being in a communal experience, helping to cook, clean, do chores. Life is better when resources are shared and needs are met.

Interests

Playing the banjo and about 8 other instruments. Longboarding (like skateboarding but bigger). I'm into reading fiction, poetry and native historical fiction. I love hitchicking, going on adventures. Vegetarian cooking is a passion of mine. Fitness, yoga, working out. Oh, and meditation and studying Buddhism.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Traditional old time folk, hip hop, ska, country/bluegrass, tuvan throat singing, gamelan music, hot jazz, swing, rockabilly, manouche (gypsy jazz) metal, Bach.

Books, really digging Terrence Mckenna recently. I'm into romantic and victorian poets like Shelly, big fan of Blake. Yeats is way up there. I dig the beats and the crazies, Miller, Kerouac, Burrows, Ginsberg, Vonnegut.

Movies, hhm, well, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp fiction are way up there. Waking life is nice and trippy. Not really into movies... ET?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hopped a freight train over the US border in order to hitchhike to Burning Man.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play guitar, banjo, didgeridoo, basic mandolin and harmonica. I can show you how to cook and hold a knife properly. Can teach basic yoga, how to write a song, do basic bboying (breakdancing). Can teach conversational French.

I can share a strong back to do heavier jobs.

I'd like to learn how to speak spanish.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a great cook and willing to help with groceries. Cleaning, chores and odd jobs are fine with me.

My specific skills that I can offer include but are not limited to: Teaching music, (banjo, guitar, bass, vocals, mando and others). Teaching meditation and mindfulness techniques, b-boying. Teach some french, how to longboard, how to breakdance.

I can bring music, joy and stories from the road.
