About Me
Hi! My name is Maxine and I'm 25 years old. I live in Canberra, Australia and I work for the public service in the agriculture and water policy sector.
I work in community engagement, but spend my life dreaming of wine and the adventures I'm going to have on the weekend.
I studied earth science and ecology at uni, and worked as a geochemistery lab rat, so it's unsurprising that I love exploring and all things science and nature.
When I'm not travelling, I live in a share house right next to a nature reserve (with heaps of kangaroos). My housemates are awesome - my age, super friendly and funny. We'd love you to share our home and our local knowledge, so feel free to stop by if you're in town!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love getting out there and exploring the world - not just the classic tourist attractions but also getting off the beaten track and having some epic adventures. I love spending time with locals, immersing myself in their culture and experiencing life in the community like it really is. I think Couchsurfing is a fantastic and unique way to escape the other Aussies in hostels and really see the heart of the place I'm in.
Throughout my travels I have met some incredible people who despite not knowing me at all, invited me into their homes and lives. They were so incredibly welcoming, they gave me the most amazing local insights and they gave me a little slice of home when I was so far away from my own.
I'm currently based in Canberra, so when I'm home I love to be on the other side of things. I want to show people travelling into my corner of the world the secret places people never tell tourists about. I want to share travel stories over wine, hear about all the amazing places you've been/are going and live vicariously through your adventures.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While nothing beats the simple beauty of a dusty summer sunset over the plains of my family farm, a few other favourite experiences are:
- Exploring a natural water slide through an ice cave in Franz Josef glacier, NZ.
- Riding a horse to a desserted temple, through the snow in Mongolia (while it was snowing).
- Going in a ski jump simulator with my 95 year old Norwegian aunty in Oslo.
