About Me

ABOUT ME
I grew up in Cambridge, which was not the best of preparations for the real world. I spent a lot of time on the river, punting up towards Grantchester in what little sunshine there was. My parents live for big trips, so I caught the travel bug early. At 7, we travelled through Central America. Since then, we have driven to Turkey, driven to Morrocco and tavelled around Bulgaria and Romania. I had no chance of being a settled guy, content with being in one place. Since I left School, i've cycled solo to Pamplona from Calais, wildcamping, i've completed the Camino de Santiago, backpacked around Turkey (seeing Mount Ararat and the Mesopotamian Plain), lived in Munich, where my mother comes from, and dropped out of one University already. My plans for the next few years are to keep on studying Chemistry in Tübingen (if my life goes bad, I can always pull a Heisenberg), and get to Central Asia and South East Asia. I also want to write some stories, finally join a band (I play bass, and sing soul classics in the shower, which could make for either a recipe for electrocution or a postmodern art installation). I am a pretty easygoing guy, up for pretty much anything (I once walked 100 km without sleep to prove a point).
PHILOSOPHY
I am trying work out what I want from my life, and who I want to be. But, as the Germans say, perhaps "der Weg ist das Ziel" (the journey is the destination).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a fan of the principle. Couchsurfing proves that the modern world does not need to to impersonal, disengaged and distrustful. Through it, we show old fashioned hospitality and generosity and get a chance to make friends with people we may never have otherwise met. You host when you can, and surf when you can, and through that you give surfers a more real experience of the places they visit.

Interests

I have a lot of interests, and am open to developing new ones. Travelling, languages, history (medieval and late antiquity), science, history of religion, reading, discovering new beers, cooking, road cycling, hiking, football, music and film are a couple.
