CURRENT MISSION
Find local ways to tackle the world
ABOUT ME
I'm a busy and committed person, always trying to do something engaging and worthwile (my idea of hell is having nothing to do that interests me). I live in Bristol, a medium size city in England where there is a bustling and interesting community. I love living minutes from friends and being able to spend time in the company of fun and inspiring people, especially having those conversations that spring from nowhere and last for hours. I can only imagine being satisfied spending my life taking part in things that can make a positive impact on the world - finding or inventing them will always be a mission of mine. I'm easy going, up for a laugh and willing to see where the unexpected takes me.
PHILOSOPHY
Don't agonise, organise: don't put up with things being crap.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted a few times, though living in an 8 person house has made it difficult this year. Still yet to surf, though hoping to change that soon.
Interests
Spending time with good friends and new people
Learning more about the world, debating it and wondering how we might make it work with all the challenges we face.
Learning new practical skills.
Organising for a local community project I help run in Bristol teaching DIY solar (http://www.demandenergyequality.org/)
Spending time outdoors: experimenting on my shared allotment, playing football, cycling.
(Slowly) learning the guitar
Writing about things that interest me, when I get the time (http://segmentpolitics.wordpress.com/category/max-wakefield/)
Reading great novels and fascinating books
Discovering new music and films.
Eating and making wonderful food
Adoring my family's dog, probably too much.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Swimming in the natural pool formed at the base of Angel Falls, Venezuela, looking over untouched rainforest.
Witnessing an arranged marriage ceremony in south India - a very sobering and troubling experience.
Taking part in direct action for environmental justice and protection - and witnessing the response from the police.
