I'm traveling as a student-- so I have no money! Additionally, I think it's easier to actually get to know a place when you're not in a hotel! So this is a great way to get into the culture of a place.

Movie-wise, I'm a huge fan of horror comedy like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and What We Do in the Shadows.
Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author, and I also really enjoy Carl Hiaasen. But overall, mystery novels are great--
