I'm a college student looking to travel at every opportunity. I was an exchange student in Belgium for a year after high school, and then I spent some time as a nanny in Hawaii. I have an avid interest in photography, which I try and exercise whenever possible. To that end, I have a 365 photo project (www.lequotidien365.tumblr.com)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed a couple of times when I studied abroad in Belgium, but I have yet to participate as a surfer myself. Once I get my own place after college, I'd love to participate in the couchsurfing community. My mom hosts couchsurfers, so that's how I pay it forward right now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a fantastic couchsurfing host in Italy. She was welcoming and kind, gave my friends and me our space while still making herself available when she could to take us out if we wanted. We had dinner with her friends, she gave us a tour of her city outside of Venice. It was a beautiful experience, and an inspiration to how kind people can be to strangers.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Nabokov. Fitzgerald. The Elegance of the Hedgehog. The Secret History.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I first lived in Hawaii, I remember driving from Makakilo where I lived to Kailua. There comes a point when you cross the island of Oahu and reach the truly beautiful, breath taking landscape of that side of the island where Kailua is, and I thought I was going to drive off the road because I was so taken aback by the beauty. I couldn't believe that I was actually in Hawaii and that I made my dream of living there come true.

Another awestruck moment was seeing the bright blue water of Capri. That trip to Italy (and also France) in high school was my first time abroad (aside from visiting family in South America when I was younger) and I paid for the trip myself. Being there and seeing that beautiful water was such a gratifying moment.
