About Me

Hello everyone or to the person who is reading this at the moment :D I am Mayte, I'm 29 years old, on the edge of the thirties... I am currently living and working as a nurse in Bristol, UK, but I am a lovely Spanish, Andalusian, Sevillian girl missing a lot her warm and lovely place. I always say that if it wasn't thanks to how cool Bristol is, I would have come back to Spain quite few years ago.

I love dancing (bachata, salsa, kizomba or whatever comes my way), reading, writing, and meeting new people of different places, background and culture. Oh! Almost forget, I am trying to learn how to play chess, so if you fancy we can always have a go.

At the moment I am focused on traveling around the world and want to try to live in new places (looking to move to Australia at some point before turning 31) so I won't be able to host anyone in Seville, nor Bristol, but check my public published travels to see where I am about and see if we can meet up!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have met wonderful people using couchsurfing and they have given me such a awesome experiences and moments!

I used to host people because I didn't have time nor money to travel, so if I couldn't do that, at least the world visited me.

I only have words of gratitude to all of those people who I have met thanks to this wonderful page, I really think it's a good opportunity to meet people with the same idea of life than you, or at least, very similar to yours. Enjoy travelling, enjoy discovering new places, new tastes, new cultures or habits, it's just something that you can really do if you are using couchsurfing.

At this time I am at the position where I can travel and I hope to be as great as all the guests I have ever had!

Interests

When I was living in Spain, I enjoyed riding my bike through the no-ending countryside and running through all the pathways my town has. The weather was quite good almost all the year and I loved to breath fresh and clean air without vehicle's gases.

Since I moved to the UK, that obviously and sadly ended, so I became very lazy. Since the pandemic started, the one and only good thing this situation brought for me was the online video HIIT classes for @dnbhiithefloor. I started to do exercise with her since the very beginning of the pandemic and I have not stopped as I enjoy doing exercise with her so much from the comfort of my own house. I hope to keep doing exercise while traveling!

I started to dance in 2017 and I have not stopped ever since. Also in 2023, I did the open water course and now I can't wait to go to beautiful diving destinations to explore the underwater world!

Did I mention I love to eat? - Not so much cooking, although I can cook delicious Spanish meals, but to be honest, I rather go out to a restaurant :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like reading books. When I was learning English I tried to read them in this language, to find out sooner than later that I hated reading in any other language but mine, hahaha. I stopped trying when I got the level of English needed to develop my job.

My favourite writer is Laura Gallego, and more recently I am reading quite a lot of Isabel Allende. I discovered that I am a lover of her style "realismo magico".

I enjoy with all kind of music, most of all with classic rock and spanish rock. But I'm finding living in England that I miss reggaeton (please forgive me for that) and spanish pop-music. I think you just realize you miss or like something when you don't have it anymore. I then discovered the electronic music (techno and drum and bass) As you can see, I am a very eclectic girl.

Regarding films... well, I don't like to be sitting down more than 30 minutes. I get tired, anxious of being in the same position for 2 hours, I need some pressure relief on my bottom and also spending pennies from time to time. Despite all, I like so much Harry Potter, Donnie Darko, Memento (although I think this film has an error) and of course, Inception. Amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Without doubts, the most amazing thing I've ever seen is the "Cabo de San Vicente" in Portugal. The way in which the waves crash against the rocks, which are perpendicular to the sea, and with the wind in your face, playing with your hair... that's the best thing I've ever lived.

I've been in some other beautiful places, though. For instance, I was one summer doing couchsurfing with a friend (who I met thanks to CS) throughout the Cadiz's coast. Beautiful. Unique experience. Charming places and gourmet food.

Something that I'm never going to forget is going to Paris and being able to accomplish one of my "forever" dreams, after moving to a different country, starting my first job and receiving my first wage. No more words need to be added.

Teach, Learn, Share

I really like cooking spanish dishes, such as "tortilla de patatas" (spanish omelette), "gazpacho" (tomato soup), and various traditional stews like "garbanzos" (chickpeas), which are my speciality, "lentejas" (lentils), or "patatas guisadas" (potatos). I like to try different recipes, but sometimes I'm quite lazy and I am happy with whatever. I acknowledge that I can rely too much on deliveroo or uber eats apps...

Now that I am traveling, I am open to learn anything that comes my way!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share ... well... I don't know exactly... everything? What do you want to do? Have a nice conversation? Funny conversation? Serious and intelligent one? Do you want to discuss why the economy of this world is so unfair? Or do you prefer just to play silly (but tricky) plays to spend hours and hours laughing and thinking about trivial things?

We can also go out together and have a really good night out!
