About Me

"Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar"
A. Machado

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For once the internet is designed to facilitate hospitality and meeting face to face! CS is a tool to meet friends you did not know you had and this I have experienced time and time again…

During my parisian CSing I have hosted a Swede, a couple of Americans, an Englishman, an Estonian, a Franco-Polish couple, a Swiss girl, a New-Zelando-Bulgarian couple, an American girl and a Vietnamese couple. During my Malagasy experience I hosted a flurry of people ranging from the Polish to the Singaporean, South African or (obviously) French…

My couch has, however, been slept on by others in the past, friends and family, of course, as they passed through Paris, but also people travelling vouched for by friends.

And I have hitch-hiked in an other life and have on occasion been hosted by friendly strangers!

Interests

I'm a keen reader.

I keep a travel blog in French, so I write a bit (http://fragments.blogg.org).

I have type set using lead type and do wood-block engraving, I'd like to try my hand at etching at some point.

I have a general interest in human sciences, though I haven't studied them!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have eclectic tastes, I listen to a lot of world music, I am into rock, reggae, punk (when I feel angry)...
The album that has had the strongest effect on me recently is by Buika (Mi niña Lola).

I like going to the cinema, I'll have to give some thought to my list of best films, there are so many I have enjoyed. I have missed out on a lot these past years, I really must catch up!

I read plenty, science-fiction (Alastair Reynolds, Paolo Baccigalupi at the moment), thrillers (I had a great time rereading Paco Ignacio Taibo II "A Cuatro Manos", Manuel Vazquez Montalban or Jean-Patrick Manchette), but also "classic" literature (Erri de Luca for instance), and always some history on the side!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To look at the magnificiently strange colours of the Band-e-Amir lakes in Afghanistan...
