À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Hospitality, from opening up my current crashing place, to someday having a farm of my own to open to the worrld.

ABOUT ME

I was a slightly over-educated white collar worker, who gave up a salary to travel the world WOOFing and volunteering. Along the way I picked up a goal (MA in Agricultural Economics, which I begin this fall at MSU), a husband (currently in limbo with the US Department of Homeland security), and stumbled upon this great webiste. I enjoy the labor of farming, but speak better sheep than tomato. I believe hospitality is central to being a good human being, so hope to always have an open home, and love meeting people in theirs.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

See profile description of hospitality as a philosophy. Happy to host (whenever I have a place with a couch), and love to see the world through others eyes when I'm grounded for a while.

Pie crust (from Mark Bitman "How to Cook Everything")

1 1/4 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar

Mix dry ingredients together thoroughly.

Cut up 1/2 c (1/4 lb) butter into small pieces. Add to the flour, and rub and crush the pieces in the flour to break into smaller chunks. Continue for ~5 min until the mixture resembles course sand.

Add 3 tbs ice-cold water and push together into a ball of dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and roll out (if you don't have a rolling pin, and empty wine bottle is perfect) to 1/3 inch thick. Place in pie shell, and fill with your favorite fruit.

Note: this recipe works for one crust, so you will need to double for two!
