About Me
Hi there! I moved to Berlin in October 2021 for my M.A. studies and recently (January 2023) moved into a flat in the Prenzlauer Berg area with my girlfriend Alma: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2016283125 She's from Budapest, Hungary and can speak Hungarian, English, French and Turkish fluently.
I am originally from Antalya/Turkey and have been using Couchsurfing for 9 years now. I have hosted, met and stayed with a lot of amazing people and as long as circumstances allow, I intend to be part of the community and to offer my place as a safe space to everyone. Regardless of your gender, age, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, you’re welcome to our place. 🏳️🌈
I've always found it challenging to introduce myself, but let me try. I am an easy-going person that can get along well with almost anyone. I am an ambivert, so I'll equally enjoy spending a chill evening at home or spending a night out with friends. I feel like I've become more introverted since I moved to Germany, but that might also be because I don't have a lot of friends here :')
My first degree was in English Language and Literature, which I completed in Turkey, and now I am doing my master's studies in British Studies in Germany. So, you might be wondering why I haven't studied in the UK at all, but the answer is simple: I could barely afford the free education in Turkey, let alone the UK education.
And as for my hobbies, I'd say I enjoy reading, cooking and translating. I've translated quite a lot of movies and TV series from English to Turkish, and one of Sir Walter Scott's short stories into Turkish, which probably sold 20 times in Turkey and I bought 10 of them to give them as gifts to my family and friends. Other than these 3 hobbies, I don't really have any other hobbies, I'm not really good at singing or playing an instrument. I'm not really creative. But for these, we can't really blame me, right? I was just raised this way.

Some useful information for your stay:
1. My girlfriend and I don't really have strict rules. Just general hygiene rules and that's all. We're pretty flexible and we'd like to make sure you feel at home.
2. You are free to cook, do laundry, use the Wi-Fi, etc.
3. You're welcome to join us for breakfasts and dinners (vegan/vegetarian). We both enjoy cooking and we'll be happy to cook for you.

Music, Movies, and Books
Instead of my favourite movies, you can find the last movies I've seen on my recently-created letterboxd account: https://letterboxd.com/mbugracelik/
My favourite author is Dostoyevsky and my favourite book is probably Les Misérables.
The last books I've read (I’ve actually read several more books after this list but don’t really have the energy to keep this list up to date :) ): Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa, The Fall by Albert Camus, I Will Greet the Sun Again by Khashayar J. Khabushani, Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa, Africa is not a Country by Dipo Faloyin, Fight Night by Miriam Toews
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- went to Malaysia with an extremely low budget and studied there for 10 months
- hitchhiked more than 25 thousand kilometres
- organised a fundraising event with a group of friends and renovated/donated materials to a kindergarten located in a village near the Turkey-Syria borders, which was previously closed due to a heating problem and the lack of materials.
- volunteered in Ukraine as a language and culture ambassador for children coming from the war-affected areas
