PURA VIDA!

I'm Dannie Carr from Costa Rica. I studied business administration, and currently, I perform as a Portuguese teacher in my own online school (https://express.academy/) and look for an opportunity to do a Ph.D. program. Also, I'm an AIESEC alumni and a YLAI 2022 Fellow.

I consider myself a very expressive, friendly, courageous, and humble person. Every time that I have a chance I enjoy transmitting lots of enthusiasm and to impact people's lives through my thoughts and especially by my actions. I face with a good attitude and with a huge smile any situation in life. Moreover, I'm very curious about everything, which is why I'm always reading, investigating, and talking with people about many topics.

I have a formed opinion on the principal economic, political and social issues, but I'm always open-minded and available to discuss and change my opinion of everything.

I love dancing, teaching, hanging out, doing volunteer work, talking, and sharing good times with people.

SOME OS MY PHILOSOPHIES:
- I only regret of what I didn't do.
- Effort and perseverance overcome everything.
- Everyone is good and special in something.
- Do not keep something for a special opportunity, life is a special opportunity.
- “What you think, you become.
What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.” ― Gautama Buddha

**My dream is to leave a big and positive impact on this world through my thoughts and actions.**

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I'm in love with multiculturalism, traveling, history, human relationships, and everything that involves the knowledge and comprehension of the world where we live. I really enjoy meeting people from different countries around the world and know their culture, opinions, language, and customs. It is extremely interesting and rewarding for me.

I like to learn new languages and practice those that I have learned. I enjoy knowing the people's perspectives about their country and society. Therefore, I like to travel and receive people from anywhere, because for me, every place and person in this world has their uniqueness, essence, and story to tell. It is simply amazing!! Those are some of the reasons I have joined Couchsurfing's network and many others organizations.

Furthermore, in 2022's summer I'm going to do an internship in San Diego, CA as part of my YLAI experience. Due to this, I will be in San Diego for 4 weeks and then I'm going to be another 4 weeks traveling to DC and New York. I want to make the most out of this experience by practicing a lot of English and making meaningful connections along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite Music is Brazilian Music, Reggaeton, Dancehall, and Hip-hop. In recent times I feel that techno music has popularized and I enjoyed it too. Being honest, I listen to almost everything. In addition, I really enjoy dancing, thus I like all those Latin danceable music like salsa, merengue, cumbia or bachata.

Regarding favorite books, I'm keen on personal development literature and historical literature. Some books that I have read and enjoyed are Can't hurt me, The Lean Start-Up, Open Veins of Latin America, and Art of War.

On the other hand, I'm not used to watch movies, because I believe that I need more content and movies tend to be quick. Instead, I prefer series because you can learn more about the story and characters. Some examples of series that I have watched are Money Heist, Breaking Bad, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. I would like in the future to have more time for watching and reading several series and books that I have on my list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess that I have done many amazing things throughout my life, for example:

-One day I safe 6 kittens that were in the street dropped in a box. I took them to my house and the next day I did a "Facebook Campaign" and I found a house for all of them and even milk and other resources.

-I was tree times volunteer in an organization called TECHO (TETO) where we built houses for people in poverty in different rural areas in Costa Rica. Whit this we claim the right of those people to have a dignifying home and those families have nowadays a roof where to sleep. The smile on the face of the families that we built the houses with is priceless.

-My AIESEC volunteer internship in São Paulo, Brazil! That was a really great experience that I had an opportunity to live outside my home, city, and country for the first time. I worked doing workshops for vulnerable children and teenagers during their holidays.

Other amazing things and histories I will tell you personally during our amazing Couchsurfing experience. Give me the chance to do that :)!

Teach, Learn, Share

I never stop teaching, learning, and sharing. Knowledge and Expediencies are endless! I can teach and share everything that I know from my technical expertise to my personal philosophies and culture. In addition, I hope to learn and receive these things from other people too.

I really like the language exchanges. I have used the app HelloTalk which is very good for this, I really recommend this to learn other or practice languages with native people. Also, if you would like to add me my username is @dannie.carr. Let's exchange languages!!
