ABOUT ME
Hosting again after a 2 year hiatus. It's been too long!

I am interested in everything. But particularly, I love music, neuroscience, running, the outdoors, backpacking, cycling, sailing, reading, and good conversation. I also have an interest in religious thought and am pursuing a minor in East Asian religion. I know more than most about the Bible (though I'm not Christian), and love sharing but HATE offending, which always goes hand-in-hand it seems....

I'm a vegetarian, but you probably would only find out if somebody else mentioned it (or by reading this, I suppose). This is a part of my life for many reasons: environmental, health, love, and more. I don't preach it, but I do feel there is something special about life that should be preserved. Yes, plants are living, but this is an argument we can have in person. :)

I want to see the world, and I want to go to grad school for Neuroscience. Hopefully, I'll do the former for a year or so before I do the latter. But we will see... Maybe the Peace Corps? Merchant marines? (that would be a bit more than a year... but I'm OK with that).

I like to think of myself as an intellectual. I'm not too terribly smart, but I have an insatiable desire for understanding and knowledge of all kinds. I chose to study Neuroscience because it is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses damn near everything. Gotta know a little about each aspect of the world. And somehow, this is a bit of a spiritual thing for me. A spiritual intellectual, maybe? But only if I may grant myself a title.

And for a less hand-wavy description: I am a university student (still...) studying the brain and mind. I do research on songbirds, and now am venturing into studying dolphins in the wild. I am fascinated by how the mind works in all ways, but particularly while malfunctioning as that can inform us on how the machinery works to accomplish a goal. Where does music exist? Where does love exist? Where does god exist? Where does everything spiritual exist? I don't know, but I do know that we would not experience any of it without our brains. I love the ocean, and live on a sail boat. I spend a lot of time in and around the water, despite being ginger and burning easily (which sucks, but comes with the territory). I'm an ourdoorsy person originally from a rural, mountainy, deserty area.

PHILOSOPHY

I seek experience, knowledge, and awakening everywhere and every day. They come from the most unexpected places, and are easily overlooked. I do strange things to put myself in the position to catch them: I walk barefoot to feel the earth beneath me because tactile sensation is just as valuable as sight or sound (seriously, though. I never wear shoes), I climb to see the world from a higher perspective yet am not too proud to bow or kneel, I talk to strangers whenever possible (in the words of my 8 year old niece: 'There are no such things as strangers, just friends you haven't met yet').

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

This part of my story began in the summer of 2012. I've surfed in Florida, and I've since hosted many people here in San Diego.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in West Palm Beach, Florida with a great human being Rusty. Since then, I've hosted a ton of people from all over the world, and I'm looking forward to hosting many more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I watch movies sometimes, read all the time, and listen to music when I can. Specifics would be long and boring to read through.... But I always look for something to teach me, be it factual information or otherwise.

Movies: documentaries, meaningful stories, etc.

Books: I like to learn about the workings of the world, particularly the mind (be it human or not). But a story that can bring me to an extreme of an emotion, or teach me something about myself that I never knew, would be much higher on my list of favorites.

Music: If it sounds, I'll listen. Music is one of those subjective things, is it not? Because of this, I like to try to be in the mindset of the artist to try to better understand what is going on. I'll never understand fully, but if I don't try, I'll never understand partially. I also like to play.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Held hands, kissed, fell in love, got lost in the deepness of her eyes, loved passionately, grew distant, fought, argued, cried, lost.
But who ever reads a story just for the ending?

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to hear about other cultures and religions. For religions, I especially love to be brought to understanding the underlying, essential reasons for beliefs.

The most valuable lessons I've learned have come from many sources; be they people, events, or something entirely unexplainable; and have changed the way I think, see, hear, act, and imagine. These are the lessons I live for, and they always seem to come when least expected.
