À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

To meet, speak and learn.

ABOUT ME

I'm a quiet but outgoing type of guy, who likes to be outdoors and travel. Other people tend to tell me I'm a great conversationalist :) I enjoy tennis, cycling, cooking, books and movies.

Currently I am working hard on putting together my PhD in economics, hoping that it will help better understand the workings of the capital market (or at least parts of it). If that sounds utopian then, hey, I just got past my first year, so I can afford some illusions!

Seriously speaking, I enjoy my job, especially the fact that an important part of academic work is giving and receiving feedback to and from others. This way you don't get stuck only in your own stuff but can keep in touch with different fields.

Which brings me to the next point that I also don't like to be stuck in one place all the time, even if it is as beautiful a city and country as Zurich and Switzerland are. It's good to have a home but it's also good to leave for a while every now and then. I guess this is equal to saying that I'm a big fan of travelling! I really enjoy my time on the road and people who went with me on different trips seemed to have good fun as well. It doesn't also hurt that I usually learn quite a lot about culture, history, geography and, thanks to Couchsurfing, also about the people in places I go to!

The bottom line in my own view is that I'm a curious, easy-going, well-organized person with a penchant for discovering. And that might include meeting you!

PHILOSOPHY

I can't say that I have a large, complex system in place, nor that I intend to develop one. I'm definitely in favour of simple, parsimonious rules:

- don't make the life of other people harder (also or especially in small matters)

- be reliable

- be nice

- enjoy life! Which is actually easy if you follow the above rules, because they give you a real peace of mind.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

On the receiving end so far... I stayed with quite a few different Couchsurfers during my roadtrip of the American Southwest and I must say it added greatly to an anyway amazing holiday. Definitely looking forward to more and also to some hosting experience!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Books:
- anything by Kurt Vonnegut
- Master and Margarita
- Doktor Zhivago
- some terrific authors from my home country: Andrzej Sapkowski (first-class fantasy/historical fiction), Marek Krajewski (you will get enticed by his crime stories) and Julian Tuwim (a true wordsmith-poet)
- popular science if its witty and insightful

Movies:
- Citizen Kane
- LA Confidential
- almost anything starring Robert de Niro and/or Al Pacino and/or Kevin Spacey and/or Julia Roberts and/or Penelope Cruz

Music:
I'm still generally stuck in the '70... Plus The White Stripes are pretty cool!

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I can tell you, sitting on the rim of the Grand Canyon (not the uppermost one but a bit lower) with something like 300m of freefall beneath your feet leaves a lasting impression... "And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you."

Pays que j'ai visités

Australia, China, Japan, United States

Pays dans lesquels j'ai vécu
