About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see, eat, and drink as much of the world as I can.

ABOUT ME

We are a young married couple currently living in Washington, DC. Dusty is a manager at a restaurant in DC that focuses on beer (50 drafts, 500 bottles, 5 cask ales), and it is a passion of his. He's also a Brewer's Assistant at a brewery in downtown DC.

We are exploring our new lives working and living in downtown DC. We would be happy to take you out on U St and on the 14th St Corridor to show you all the cool restaurants, bars, and clubs DC's got to offer, as well as the touristy stuff on the mall, like the free museums, the Washington Monument, the Capital and of course to Penn Ave for the White House.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently we are hosting on our couch in our 1 bedroom in downtown. We can provide advice on the local nightlife and possibly even arrange for ourselves or a few friends to take guests out on the town.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Dusty - Though I've seen many a couch in my day, my only experience through this site involved a chance encounter with a member after a show on my band's tour. I had messaged the member from the bar we were playing at, then walked to the cafe upstairs to get some food and instantly recognized the cashier from her profile. I asked if she'd ever heard of couchsurfing, and explained that my band was dreading the all night drive to the next show, and she offered us her open couches.

The surf-rock jam session that ensued when we got there was great. Playing music with people is an wonderful way to get to know them.

Although our hosts and 2 members of my band ended up drunk on moonshine, and I'm pretty sure one of the guys from the house was trying to wait in the dark for us to go to sleep and mumbling about some drugs he had taken, the couches were pretty comfortable, and we survived.

Update: Since our Eurotrip last September, we can say we've had a phenomenal couch surfing experience in Belgium with Phil & Sofie. They showed us Brussels, Ghent, Brugge, and Ninove, where they live. We got a chance to see Belgium from a Belgian's perspective and really felt like we learned more about the culture and the people. We will certainly be back.

Interests

Dusty -
-Music! This includes recording, playing drums (along with almost everything else), touring, etc. Also as nerdy as it sounds I actually enjoy designing A/V systems for homes and businesses

-Beer! Craftbrewing, homebrewing, and sometimes PBR

-Food! My wife and I love to cook. When we are able to host again, you can usually expect a meal with your couch as we try out new recipes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We have done several cross country road trips, including one for our honeymoon, and without fail we are blown away by the westbound section of I-70 between Vail and Grand Junction. The Colorado River and mountains are incredible there. Also, can't forget the beautifully remote Southwest.
