ABOUT ME

Hallo,

Somehow I have found myself living in Vienna... I have been here for almost 2 years.

Each day I ponder whether this is the right place for me. However each day I continue to live here it is evident that I enjoy it, and that I have met many wonderful people, and have had many wonderful experiences here.

During this time, my english has gone from bad to terrible, while my german has gone from nothing to something.

I still have no idea what this whole life thing is about, but I know I want to continue to see more of the world, learn another language, take wonderful photographs, try acting someday, try running my own business, open a gallery/cafe/teahouse, live ON the beach, move to another foreign city!

PHILOSOPHY

It's the people you meet, that make any place worthwhile.

I don't like people who are fake, and I guess fake people don't like me! I find people who live in foreign country, who don't bother learning the native language incredibly ignorant and limited.

Trust your instincts, your intuition and be your own judge of charachter.

Discover something new to love and cherish, and decide to determine what you do not want or need in your life.

If we all take a moment each day to respect and think about our environment, to consider where our food comes from, how it is grown, what you choose to purchase, what we consume: food, media, clothes, objets, and then consider what we can produce, what we are capable of doing and contributing to the world, what you as an individual can give back for a better society, wouldn't that be worthwhile?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I've been here a while, I have not been able to take advantage of the wonderful world of couchsurfing as much as I would like!

I would love to host, but our apartment is too small, and our neighbours almost live here, however I may be able to take you around some sites and to invite you for a coffee in one of my favourite hiding places.

I'm looking forward to meeting more couchsurfers during my travel in Summer!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Everyone is friendly, open and relaxed..and overly social. So if your new to a city good to find your CS community.

Interests

I like taking photos, talking, eating, cooking (sometimes better than other times), biking, finding special places, exploring markets, streets and stores, watching people, thinking, lazing in the sun, animals in all shapes and forms, ginger, lemon, sleeping, whinging, sleeping, dancing around like a maniac, seeing live bands, burping and being silly.

I am a summer child, a night owl and not a very friendly person in the morning before I drink coffee, when I'm extremely hungry or extremely tired!

I like adventures, but also appreciate a comfy space to return to after a long day out and about, exploring a new place!

One of my favourite things to do:
1. Buy a 4 euro disposable camera
2. For a day just walk around the city or town or beach or park or mountain you're in, on or at, and simply shoot pictures with free will and abandon
3. No posing no 'cheese'
4. Document the immidiate world around you, without knowing or fortelling what the images will turn out like.
5. Let the film sit in a cupboard for a while until you forget about it,
5. Until you remember that one day long ago you took pictures of who knows what?
6. A wonderful surprise awaits you when you decide to get that disposable camera developed.

Music, Movies, and Books

The most recent films which are on my mind:
Inglourious Basterds, Vicky Christina Barcelona,
Im Bazar Der Geschlechter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01xFXo3A44g
All of Wes Anderson's films.

Books: Trying to read german books with dictionary in hand...fun stuff!
I've also been trawling through classics: Frankenstein, Dracula, The War of the Worlds, Animal Farm.
Modern classics? The Shock Doctrine. My Booky Wook (Russell Brand's biography bound to make you laugh...), just started Shantaram. Should be an adventure. I tend to read classics, fantasy or biography & non fiction.

Music: Currently listening to:
a lot of radio: Fip (French Radio Online), FM4 Austria's youth radio).
Beirut, Bob Dylan, Brighteyes, Florence and the Machine, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (they recently played in Vienna). A resurgence of Ben Folds Five from my teenage years. I try to play Nirvana and Pink Floyd on my guitar, but it just doesn't seem to be happening!
Australia is also a bottomless well of musical talent: Angus and Julia Stone, just one example. My lack of musical talent is an embarrassment to my nation!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It really is the small expereinces which are the most amazing.

- moved to a foreign place with no idea about anything
- met some cool, inspiring, crazy, genius individuals
- lived in a baroque apartment in the heart of Vienna
- met some family for the first time in 18 years
- quit smoking (several times)
- learnt(some)German
- seeing snow for the first time in Berlin, at the age of 25!
- visiting the breathtaking mountains of Austria and Switzerland
- growing up next to the unforgettable, beautiful harbour and beaches of Sydney, my home.
