About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To survive through school.

ABOUT ME

I'm from a town much smaller than Ames, a town of only 5,000 people. But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I'm a Music Education student at Iowa State, and play the tuba. (But don't worry, I don't ever practice in the apartment!) I'm a member of the Marching Band here, and as an effect of that am a huge fan of the Cyclones. Can you blame me? I just generally struggle to keep a balance of social life, grades, and sleep. Something's gotta give, but not for a little while longer!

PHILOSOPHY

I've heard this lately, "Eso si que es," which is Spanish for "It is what it is," and I couldn't imagine a better way to live. Decisions have been made, you can't change them, take what you have and make the best of it. Because the best is always pretty great regardless of how bad it has been.

Music, Movies, and Books

Michael Crichton is my favorite author, and I love to read. I just don't enough. I love stupid cartoons as much as I like dramatic Sci-Fi shows. Can anyone say Firefly? Music... I listen to pop music when I drive, alternative with wine, and classical when I want something to immerse myself in. And as always, there's gotta be more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Europe in the summer of 2013 traveling with our Wind Ensemble, I was determined to find a pair of shoes to buy. The hitch, however, is that I wear a size 14-15 (47-48) shoe. I quickly learned how tricky this would be. I spent some time over 5 or more days in 4 different cities attempting to find a store that carried my size. When we reached Amsterdam, I thought I might have more luck. I went into about 4 different shoe stores, and had no luck.. However, one lady had been giving business cards by another store called "Big Shoe." (http://www.bigshoe.nl/index2.htm) There was hope for me. When we got there, I actually had options to choose from, it was wonderful. But the cheapest pair was around 120 euros, something I was willing to spend, but not something I wanted to spend. However, after trying on the shoe and saying I wanted to buy it, the lady found the only other shoe they had of that style was a window display, said something I couldn't quite understand, and rang me up for 59 euros because one shoe was a little bit faded.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot of history about Iowa State, I love to read about this stuff and generally retain a lot. I'd love to show people around campus and share all of the little things I know.
