About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Finishing this masters.
More detail:
Currently, I'm doing my masters in Peace and Conflict Studies which is a subfield of International Relations in Political Science. Basically, it's about peace and war and everything around it (for everybody who's interested right now, watch this video. It doesn't describe the field in full detail but gives a nice overview of some parts of it.).
I am in my third semester right now, so I already spent some time studying and I still like this subject for it's diversity of backgrounds people come from to all engage in the resolution, explanation, understanding of conflict and creating peace to make the world a less violent place for everybody. (This does sound kinda cheesy, but at least in Magdeburg, this is definately part of the study programme.)

ABOUT ME
My name is Paul and I'm currently living in the East of Germany in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt. I am in my late twenties and live in a shared flat with three other people here.I like the German East for it's unregulatedness with lots of parks and green spots to hang out and our rents are still quite cheap.
I like to meet people, try different food and share experiences and knowledge with them. As I didn't use couchsurfing for a while because I haven't been traveling a lot for the past years, I feel a bit "out of practice" but nevertheless I am keen to be on the road again being out of my comfort zone.

PHILOSOPHIES

"Go through your life with a smile on your face and let a little sun rise for all the others you meet."

“If I can't dance to it, it's not my revolution.” ― Emma Goldman

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Present
Just travelling a bit and sleeping at peoples couches :)

Past
I told people of the great possibilities of the community and what nice other guys they can meet here.
I met with other people from my former community.
I didn't host much yet due to a city where nobody wanted to go to or space which I didn't have.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

- Carneval metting Barranquilla und beeing an active member there
- travelling around Colombia and surfing a few times
- surfed in central europe

Interests

I try to do some political stuff which means I am more or less active in social movements regarding mostly climate, environmental issues and gender, feminism, masculinity related things. I'm looking for the not that bad things to do (meaning that in capitalism, all things will eventually be parts of the big picture and you can not do anything about it, but we have to try to find tiny spaces to try something different - keeps me up at night sometimes). The overall goal would be a situation where we are all free without any social constraints or other forces.
Beyond these things I enjoy good food, stories, people who are enthusiastic about something, spaces to hang out, reading, riding my bikes, being outside and surrounded by nature ...

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I am bad in watching movies at the moment, my favorite tv show is "Le cuísine des terroirs" which is a show from German-French Television about different places in Europe and their food
Books: 'Feminism is for everybody' from bell hooks - see this as a recommendation, very good start to understand a tiny bit, what feminism is all about. Bad at reading ficiton
Music: Goran Bregovic, John Butler Trio, Amadou y Mariam, lots of German rap music and some techno, AfroFusion (recently discovered)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in the Amazonas, in Norwegian, in Ireland, in Greek, in Finnland, and in lots of other countries and saw amazing nature and animal wildlife.
I normally go to lots of demonstrations and do social work, which I really enjoy.
