I love those rare moments when somebody lets you slip into their world for a minute. I love the beautiful stories about small things that are worn like pearls in the secret lives of dreamers. I love to rediscover familiar places and get lost in unfamiliar ones.
I'm fascinated by just about everything and am embarrassingly gullible.
I believe in trying to remember to listen after asking a question.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm not very interested in tourist-oriented stuff and love the chance to visit a place with a more honest kind of connection to it. I'm interested in the kinds of communities people build for and around themselves. I'm also on the road, thinking about potential places where I might want to live and I'm especially interested in meeting artists/musicians/writers/tattoo artists/diy-type people and various other bon vivants.
Interests
Oliver Wendell Holmes once said that "A mind, once stretched by a new idea [or experience], never retains its original dimensions." That.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I have a deep love of music, but don't play any myself. I'll enjoy anything with a brain, heart, or soul. Everything from old school goth/death rock, jazz, opera, folk, industrial, experimental / indie, noise, and on and on.
Books: Murakami, Calvino, Genet, Sartre (especially Nausea). I recently read "Just Kids" by Patti Smith and I cried at the end.
Painting: (Since it's on my mind) Jay DeFeo was one of the brightest stars to light the San Francisco Bay and never got the credit she was due. I'm glad that's finally starting to change.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I wrote this years ago, but I stand by it: One thing I'm really glad I did was look out at the Sahara Desert while holding a sea shell from the long-dried Sahara Sea. Right then, all the "history" that I had learned became stories; became real. Nothing has ever been the same. I think.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know my way around a kitchen and how to hold a hammer. I'm familiar with most wood and metal-working tools, welding, heavy equipment, including crane operation. I can drive most anything. I can "juggle" for a second before throwing lemons all over the room.
