About Me

I was born and raised in the prairie-mountain province of Alberta, Canada. I love exploring, especially by bicycle or on foot. I am a huge fan of people, parks, trees, photography, art, and religion/spirituality. *No I'm not an evangelist, just enjoy deep conversation about life and the habits of folks.
I use Pan as a nickname because it helps to highlight that I identify as gender-neutral or non-binary trans. My pronouns are they/them/their.
I have lived in and explored the country of Canada for most of my life and am now living and exploring the UK while on a 2 year youth visa. I hope to meet some friendly folks who share a common love for life and the planet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am traveling around the UK for a bit and looking to get settled, but in the meantime I just need some inexpensive accommodation.
I prefer to spend my time with other people, in community settings, but sometimes hostels are not available or affordable in some areas.
I'd like to get to know more locals and become familiar with the cities and communities I find myself in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tamora Pierce, Malinda Lo, Julie Anne Peters...I love watching all kinds of fun movies. I listen to whatever is playing - which is usually the sounds of the world around me. I have a collection of music influenced by those I interact with - Enya, the Who, movie soundtracks, Mumford and Sons, classical...etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most recently I decided to go on a week long backpack walk through Nottinghamshire to explore the Robin Hood Way and various sites along that route. It was tough being on my own and not really accustomed to walking for 15-20km each day with a heavy pack on, but the experience was undeniably one I will never forget.

One of my favourite moments was when I thought I was going to be in big trouble because it was a hot day and I had ran out of water completely with a headache from dehydration coming on fast. The sun was setting beautifully across the farmscape but I had trouble enjoying it because it also meant I had not found anywhere to fill up my water bottle and was at least a kilometer from my intended camp spot in the forest. I went off the route to seek out the final farm option and yes there were people there! They came to meet me ad presumably tell me which direction to go in. I asked for water, got directions and then as I turned to walk away as the sky was losing the sun, I was offered a burger for the road. That expanded into a full blown bbq, getting to know 3 different families, pitching my tent in their farm yard and making a whole bunch of new friends.

Everything in life is a balance, you just have to let it happen. I look forward to more of these unexpected and serendipitous experiences among the couch surfing community.

Teach, Learn, Share

If I have done it I can probably show you and teach as much as I know. I love to learn new things and to hone skills I've picked up.
Recently I got into spinning fire - poi and staff. It is a lot of fun, I'm no expert, but I know a thing or two about making my own equipment and settings stuff on fire safely.
I'm interested in local culture, local nature and enjoy old buildings and museums. I'm down for virtually anything if it sounds fun and is legal/safe.
