About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore life's many possibilities, and through that get to know myself better.

ABOUT ME

Sorry in advance for the long personal description, it came from my woofing profile :) ... i didn't want to write the same sort of thing over again :)

I have been a worker and traveller since i was 14 going on construction expeditions down to Hondruas and Guatemala building kindergarten schools, highschools, community centres etc. with an organization called World Accord.

I have also been to Belize (Liberty Foundation) and India (Child Haven International) working at orphanages/children's homes for 2-3 months at a time. In Belize i was also doing organic farming on a small plot of land that they had which provided fresh veggies for the children and the extra could be sold to the local community for more income.

Here in Guelph, Ontario which is 'home base' i have been in an organic herb farm barter position since May. I go out to the farm every second Wednesday and help with planting, harvesting, mulching, mixing up potting soil, planting seeds in soil blocks, etc. and in exchange i get seedlings (pepper plants, basil plants, bok choi, parsley, bergamot, lemon balm, seed potatioes, etc.), vegetables (squash, nettles, chives, cilantro, canned plumbs, canned cherries etc.), and a knowledge about how to grow my own food through chatting with Scott who owns the farm and through learning by doing which for me is how i learn best.

It's been really exciting taking all the plants that i got from the barter and being able to plant them and watch them grow... especially the potatoes which have shot up and i'm always needing to look for more dirt to pile on top of them (the more that you pile the dirt on when they grow, the more the potatoe harvest!!).

This all goes into saying that through volunteering and then my work with organic farming it has made me want to be able to grow my own food and then to share that knowledge with others who don't know as much about it. But also to keep learning from those that do, or who are experimenting with possibilities... learning never ends!

I have also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for a while in Guelph, ON so know how to hammer a nail, do a bit of drywalling, can paint walls (not perfessionally), put on house siding, and a few other small things. I like working with my hands and learning new things.

I have been around horses, cats, dogs, chickens, guinea pigs, chicks, ducklings, baby turkeys and snakes quite frequently if i haven't owned them. I have no fear of animals and am used to handling them, feeding, watering, etc. I do ride horses so if there's a possibility of going out on trails or doing some ring work at least once a week i'll jump at it.

I love canoeing, yoga (not an expert at all and want to learn more), swimming in rivers and lakes, and working on projects that i believe in.

A few of those projects that i have on the go now are re-writing the volunteer construction handbook for World Accord.

Also becoming an expert on a business plan, plants list, the culture, etc. that a contact of mine put together for a Guatemalan woman's cooperative (who i've worked with before) to grow traditional medicinal herbs. Which they would then be able to sell to their communities at low prices to cure common or more complex illnesses instead of needing pharmasutical drugs, which they can't afford anyways. Once i've got a good grasp on the information i'll go down next year (probably August) and work with this women's cooperative (Mujeres en Accion) set it all up down in Guatemala.

So when i have time off from working with you i'll be reading up and working on some of those projects. If you have any insight, ideas, interest, or are just curious i'm very open to chatting about it and anything else.

PHILOSOPHY

To live, love, smile, have fun, and treat everyone as an equal
I truly believe that no one should live by themself... everyone needs to have others in their life... whether animal or human.

Interests

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Done - Built kindergarten schools in Honduran mountains, helped to make chapatti's in CHI Hyderabad, also danced like there's no tomorrow :)

Seen - Children in different parts of the world growing up, changing, and becoming their own person. Copan mayan ruins, sea turtles, a head dance... strange experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - The philosophy that a lady living in 'poverty' taught me - "I'm not poor, i just don't have much money". Also, how to eat with your right hand indian style.

I would like to learn anything that people have to teach me, especially yoga, cooking, dancing, travelling tips, how to enjoy life more!

i can share my thoughts, some indian dancing that I've learned, my simple and vegetarian but usually good cooking skills, some origami, having fun with arts and crafts.
