About Me

CURRENT MISSION
I plan to spend a month backpacking solo in Japan, a dream of mine for quite some time. March 20-April 23.

ABOUT ME

Hey fellow Couchsurfers!! My name is Meghan and I am 25 years old. I'm originally from Florida, USA, but have lived in Prague, Czech Republic for the last year as an English teacher. I love meeting new people and learning about different perspectives and cultures and living abroad has definitely provided plenty of opportunity. I have traveled to 35 countries and counting...

I am adventurous and free spirited but also very responsible and respectful of others' space.

I lived in Germany for a few years when I was young and ever since then I have had a serious case of Wanderlust! I live to travel and travel to live. This led me to create a travel consulting company, UnearthAway, to help others backpack Europe on a budget.

PHILOSOPHY

What drives me is travel, seeing new places, and being exposed to new cultures. I think cultural competence is one of the most important understandings that everyone should strive to develop. The way to gain understanding is through mindfulness and stepping outside of my comfort zone. No matter how many countries I visit, I will never be done seeing what our world has to offer :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently looking for hosts in Japan as I will be backpacking for a month from March 20-April 22 through the major cities. I am fascinated by the Japanese culture and would love to meet someone who is interested in cultural exchange. As an english teacher, I'm fully open to conversing and language exchange.

It would also be a plus to meet a fellow musician. I plan to bring my ukulele with me :)

As I teach online, I would love to find a place where I could teach for a few hours in the mornings.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a multiple times and really enjoyed the experience. I have also stayed with a few hosts in different countries who have truly made my experience unique. In my opinion, the best way to travel is to meet locals. You get a truly different experience of a city that way.

Its been really cool to meet up again with people who I hosted or hosted me. Those connections are really amazing even years later.

Interests

Travel, playing ukulele, outdoor activities, yoga, cooking (especially for others), jazz music, Netflix, cats, and exploring.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years back I had the opportunity to travel to Thailand and Cambodia. There I met some of the most graceful and mindful individuals who inspired me to make changes in my own life. I hope to return to the region to experience more of the vibrant culture.

This is the last time I was in Asia so I am really looking forward to experiencing Japanese culture!

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn more about what it is like to live in Japan and discover new things I might not find on my own. I am the founder of a travel consulting company, right now just operating in Europe, but I love finding off-the-beaten-path treasures in general.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm currently an English teacher and love both language and cultural exchange. Let's share travel stories!

If you are looking to practice conversational English, I have been teaching for a few years and love to talk with others. I also love to share music and food!

I am happy to contribute to cooking and cleaning in a shared house.
