My name is Melanie (I also go by Melon!)

I am a freelancer that dabbles in a ton of things...but what matters most to me is my slow fashion studio Meadow Land and doing circus acrobatics!

I care a lot about fashion sustainability... from ethical and transparent production to conscious consumption, slow fashion is my main cause. Meadow Land is a small scale project that utilizes second hand domestic textiles to create one of a kind garments. I believe the nostalgia and history of blankets, curtains, placemats etc add a degree of sentimentality to our clothes. It's a bit strange how nostalgia is actually stronger in experiences we haven't lived and how much romanticization can drive us. In this case, I hope to harness that energy and get people to be more aware of the craft and value of our clothing.

And acrobatics? I am definitely a mover. I do aerial silks, lyra, pole and a decent amount of handstands.

To me, there is almost nothing better than touching the ground with my hands. The change in perspective, the sensation and texture of the ground, the intense focus on just...trying to stand! I love it all

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I have met loads of amazing people when I lived in Italy and traveled to different countries on the weekends. Traveling alone has become my preferred method of travel and that is because of all of the experiences I've had surfing and staying at hostels. I have met a bunch of people while traveling alone and their openness and vulnerability with me makes me feel like I have a home everywhere I go.

Right now, I am probably writing you folks in Montreal! There is an international circus festival in July and I am going to be spending a whole week watching shows from companies all over the world :')
