About Me

Not usually the kind of person who likes to blow my own trumpet so to speak.

In this case, it seems appropriate for me to talk about myself even though it kind of feels like I am at a job interview where a potential employer is asking me and wanting to know a bit about me. Here goes...

My name is Mel Young. I am almost reaching my mid 30's.
I like to think of myself as a friendly, warm, and approachable person.
You would have to meet me to find this out for yourself :)

Always open to new experiences.
Embracing cultural diversity and learning is and has always been very important to me.

I enjoy meeting new people from all walks of life, and much prefer that my guests have good body hygiene standards and know how to look after themselves. I am not really good with people's other strong body odor and neither are my surroundings.

Last but not least...

In exchange for offering a place to stay, it would be muchly appreciated if you could also help me in return.

Money is not so much a requirement. Helping out with a small amount of housework and or even contributing of some food/drink would be quite helpful and greatly appreciated.

I understand that travellers are looking for ways to cut costs while travelling. While I am offering a place for people to stay and rest, it does not mean that my kindness and hospitality is open to being taken advantage of.

Help me to keep helping you! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My decision to sign up to this site is largely influenced by me travelling overseas in the very near future, and needing a place or places to stay. Also in times to come.

I am also interested in hosting open and friendly people from all around the globe, as I enjoy learning various aspects about other cultures different to my own that adds value and richness to my life.

Interests

Creativity in many different forms.

It is very easy and natural for me to be passionate about being creative. Creativity in various forms makes up a large portion of who I am as a person and the type of person you can expect to meet.

Creativity through visual arts, design, food, and more.

Natural plant medicines is also another interest of mine. Especially NZ native plant medicines.

Hosting people is another thing I enjoy. My friends and family can vouch for me and what I am like as a host.

I also enjoy gardening. Seeing food and flowers I have planted in the growing stages is something I find quite satisfying

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music genres...

70's funk, old school rock music, 80's-90's rap and hip hop, drum and bass, alternative, grunge, electronica, and more...

I enjoy watching documentaries, dramas, horror films, films based on true stories, some television (not much) and more.

A few of my favourite movies are Beautiful Losers, The Acid House, The Mark of Cain, and Frida. Based on the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
