Finding a new niche in the USA
ABOUT ME
I love to laugh! I'm fascinated by people. My dream job would be to be a produce for This American Life! I earned a degree in history from Oberlin College, spent a year at home in Washington to hang out with my family, and then moved to Mexico for 5 months. When I got back home I accidentally got a job with an investment company. I learned a lot, but my heart wasn't in it. This last year I've spent in the Cascade mountains. The Methow Valley comprises 5 little towns with a total population of 2500 people. Here I've had the first job I've ever truly enjoyed: Compost Educator for Classroom in Bloom. It's a garden/class room for kids K-10. I've learned so much about gardening, about education, and about compost. It's challenging at times, but absolutely fulfilling. The season's wrapping up though, and I'm ready to move on. I'm thinking New Orleans... the Pacific Northwest will be my home again someday, but I am pretty excited about getting to know another American culture. The southern pace and abundance of live music in NoLa is incredibly alluring to me at this point.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I surfed in India and Singapore last fall. Over the next couple weeks I'm excited to meet people around NC and to really get a feel for the cities I visit. My sister wants us to move there someday, so I'm doing some recon! Once I get set up in my new home I hope to host surfers in NoLa.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My host in India was incredible! The non-profit I was going to be working with didn't provide me with any logistical info, but Rushir and his family took me in, gave me office-appropriate Indian attire, and were fantastic hosts! I went to a few CS meetups in Ahmedabad, India.
Interests
These last few months I've been all about exploring the mountains around my home as much as possible. Hiking and biking around here (Twisp, WA) is phenomenal! I love to laugh, to dance, and have impromptu conversations with people of all sorts. My family is amazing, and I spend as much time with them as possible. Podcasts keep me company wherever I go (RadioLab and Freakonomics are my current favorites). I'm a sucker for a good mystery novel. At the restaurant where I work I get to wield my Spanish with the kitchen crew, and my French on the tourists as they come through. Conversing in another language is just plain fun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A few weeks ago I hiked The Enchantments outside of Leavenworth WA. 18 miles, 5000 ft gain, 7000 descent, 18 miles, the most magical place I've been!!
With no garden or compost experience, I was hired to teach garden and compost to kids. Yes the piles can smell. But compost is so cool! Diverts waste, gives back to the earth. I've learned a ton this summer, and last week my compost piles hit 150 degrees. Victory!
