About Me

I'm a rather calm and quiet person, but that doesn't mean I don't get excited or do silly things sometimes. I also tend to be more talkative when I meet new people and speak English, so
i guess that's the version of me you'll meet through couchsurfing :)

I'm a sound technician in a theatre and I like it, because: 1) it combines both my techical and artistic interests; 2) it's not a dull and monotonous work, as I can't imagine myself sitting behind the desk for 8 hours every day; 3) since theatres are closed in the summer in Poland, it gives me 2 months of summer vacation (traveling, yay!).

Here's some random facts about me:
- I used to study astronomy
- I don't own a smartphone, as I only use my phone for calling and texting
- I'm afraid of wasps
- I'm lazy
- when I was a kid, I used to look through the encyclopedia for fun (it also had nice pictures and maps - and since we're on the subect of maps...)
- I like maps :)

If I were to sum up my life philosophy (that's a big word), it would be something like: try not to be a dick. And if you're doing OK with that, don't be afraid of trying new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Two of my flatmates had CS profiles before me. First, we hosted Blake and Peter from Australia, then I went to Budapest with my friend Magda and then I decided to create my own account, because I loved both of these experiences.

For me, visiting a new place means getting a taste of it's culture and meeting the locals, cause it's the people that make up towns and countries - and Couchsurfing is the perfect tool for that.

Interests

Although I have studied science and technology, I have a lot of interests among the humanities. It sounds fun, but it's difficult when you're expected to figure out what do you want to do with your life int your early twenties ;)

I also play guitar, sing and know some basics on drums. I even used to have a heavy metal band with my friends in high school. Now I mostly play for myself, although I keep a special folder on my PC with my own composition for the time I finally become a rock star. Any day now!

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC

I still keep a last.fm profile, but I don't use it very often anymore - https://www.last.fm/user/not_quite

My roots are in rock and heavy metal, but it later developed to many different kinds of alternative music - pop, rock, electronic. Recently I've been discovering some Brazilian music, like Rodrigo Amarante (the guy who sings the intro to Narcos) and Caetano Veloso (a Brazilian classic). The last concert I've been to was TOPS - an indie pop band from Canada, make sure to check them out, they're very good!

Films: Tarantino, Fincher , Guy Ritchie, Kubrick, Rodriguez, Polanski, Scorsese, Woody Allen, Jarmusch, Monty Python, old mexican novels adaptations ;), old cartoon network (dexter, johnny bravo, sheep in the city) and japanese (tiger mask, yattaman, captain hawk) cartoons, b class horrors (hellraiser, evil dead).

I recently read, that series have become for flim industry what novels are for literature, while films are now more like short stories - and I think that there is some truth to that. So here's a list of some series that I like: Vikings, Game of Thrones (obviously), Stranger Things, Broadchurch, Mozart in the Jungle, Narcos.
And the one you absolutely have to watch - Black Mirror.

Books: no specific type, but a Pratchett book is always a good book:] Kapuściński, Tolkien, Andrzej Sapkowski, Nick Hornby, Clive Barker, Gombrowicz, Douglas Adams, Ursula LeGuin Lovecraft, Robert Rankin, Dorota Maslowska, Juan Carlos Somoza...
I recently started "Hunger" by Martin Caparros, but had to return it to the library. I will have to get back to it though, it's a great and very important book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to hitchhike a bit, and my longest trip was from Newquay, Cornwall to Poland. While I may be getting too old for that, I believe it's an experience that stays with you for the rest of your life. It's tons of fun, some crazy stories, a lot of sweat, a great adventure and it restores your faith in humanity :)
