I think the modern style of travelling(hotels, bookings, reviews)is pretty new in human history. For a long time, people travelled with more risk and more trust, and the journey was as much about the soul as the distance.

In Farsi, we have a word, "ziyarat." It usually means visiting holy places, but it was also used for travelling far just to meet a special person. I feel Couchsurfing has something of that spirit; you don’t just go to a place. You go to meet people, share stories, and maybe find those meaningful connections along the way.
