Overview
About Me
Adventurous, competitive and passionate girl! Always on the go and looking for a challenge.
I love the outdoors and sports and am always looking to push myself both physically and mentally.
Having studied history at the University of Bristol, I have expanded on my passion for learning and now am embarking on a corporate legal career in London.
I love dressing up and looking smart, but similarly always happy to get muddy and stuck in, whether at home on the farm or through sport.
Couchsurfing is a fantastic app and as a super organised person I communicate and aid both hosts and guests as far as possible.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
This summer myself and a friend have graduated from university in England and are celebrating with an American adventure!
I never took a gap year and have travelled predominately in Europe and to South Africa, but now am looking to broaden my horizons.
I believe couchsurfing is a fantastic opportunity to immerse oneself in local communities and culture and avoid the often distant and highly commercial hotel lifestyle.
I hope that I can both host and be hosted, particularly when I move to London- as it is such a popular tourist destination, but similarly I may wish to escape the city life!
Interests
Having grown up in the countryside I absolutely love the outdoors. Although I am going to live in London and be a corporate lawyer, everyday I will get outside and explore. Whether through running, cycling or walking, sport is hugely important to me- I use it to motivate and escape from my academic lifestyle.
Relaxing is not one of my strong points as I love to be busy- but the opportunity to listen to music, watch a film, or read a gripping book with a glass of wine is always lovely (it just does not often happen enough!)
I am hugely inquisitive and love exploring historic and modern cultures- whether through art, food, music or language. I love to explore great economic and politic movements and their representation by the normal person through art- something which can be so telling. In Florence for example, I think I went into almost every possible museum, gallery, church etc just in a long weekend. In the Uffizi Botticelli's Primavera was blocked by tourists living through their phones and taking photos- but no one thought to turn around and appreciate his almost more magical and subtle depiction of the Virtues.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love music- whether old or new, mainstream or unusual! I always have music on in the background, usually classical when I work and chilled acoustic when relaxing.
I have to admit when people start quoting movies I am often lost! Although I love a good movie no matter what genre, I definitely cannot claim to be an expert and I would much rather be outside exploring the world!
My favourite books used to be historical fiction, however after reading history at University- I often spend more time criticising the fiction rather than enjoying it! Now I prefer novels, particularly dramas involving crime- as I love to piece together the puzzles, such as Atonement, The Outsider, or the most beautifully written Rebecca.
I'm also a huge fan of satirical and academically witty pieces such as The History Boys or Evelyn Waugh's writing.
A favourite topic is the Great Game- I would really recommend In Xandu, Lady Sale's Afghanistan, The Places In Between- all based around the Middle East and British colonisation. I find it fascinating to compare these secondary and primary works to our modern day- the similarities in mistakes made are shocking!
I love to collect books and keep a log of everything I read: but my all time favourite is my Latin edition of Winnie Ille Pu printed in Great Britain on my birthday.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Age 15 I completed the 35 mile Ten Tors Dartmoor Challenge in a team of six. We had just over 24 hours to complete the challenge over rough and very steep terrain, while carrying our own kit.
Coming over the final hill and seeing the finish line and thousands of people was the most rewarding feeling, after a lot of physical strain and little sleep! Also I could finally escape from listening to my friend sing Taylor Swift, Love Story, for 24 hours!!
I have also been able to return for the last three years to help with the event through my reserve military training at university- it was a really rewarding experience talking to all the children and parents once they finished.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teaching, learning and sharing is definitely a two way process! I love to discuss all sorts of topics whether I have knowledge of them or not, so that I can learn from others and they can learn from me!
Rather than teach, I would always hope to inspire others. It is one thing to teach someone a fact, but to inspire them to research and explore a topic further is far more rewarding.
Learn:
I want to learn more languages both for my own cultural interests and my career- first on my list is to learn Italian. I already have Latin A level so translation is not difficult, but my spoken Italian needs a lot of work!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Most importantly my gratitude- a thank you goes a long way.
I am a confident girl and love to meet new people, hear stories, discuss and debate issues and the world- hopefully over a nice glass of wine and some delicious local food!
Also I am organised, tidy and not high maintenance- so will happily just crash in a sleeping bag and will always let hosts know my plans in advance.
