About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Be who you are and say what you mean."

ABOUT ME

Renaissance woman is how my favorite teacher once described me, and I've been building on that ever since. A writer and observer by nature. I'm slowly embracing my inner gypsy and she's got a strong grip.

PHILOSOPHY

"Happiness isn't being cheerful all the time. It's being interested in things - finding out more about something, learning how to appreciate something better, incorporating something new that fits with what you already have."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I may be new to sign up for CS, but I'm not new to the program. I surfed for the first time in the summer of 2011 with a friend, and have been a lazy bum about getting myself out and about in the community since. Well, change starts somewhere, right?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In 2011, I lost multiple Indian leg-wrestling matches to the district attorney (formerly a long-haul trucker) of a small town in South Dakota. She out-wrestled, out-drank, and out-sassed the entire bar/hotel lobby all night, and was up at dawn the next morning making us breakfast. It was my first night surfing, and I couldn't of asked for a better time. Since then, I've traveled on and off around the US, occasionally surfing. Always looking to explore a new city with a local.

Interests

I have a lot of these. See "Renaissance woman."

Food of all kinds. I'll eat anything once, and probably ask for seconds. I have an Australian Shepherd who keeps me on my toes. Kickboxing and dog agility are my exercises of choice. I make my own bread and weird ice creams. Hikes are a great way to blow off steam and turn a clean puppy into a Swamp Aussie. Not a big drinker, and you can skip the beer and wine, but I'm a sucker for a good cocktail.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently on the to-read list: An Incomplete History, a few project management books, and some introductory philosophy.

Currently listening to: Bluegrass

Favorites: The Lion King, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Anne Fadiman's At Small and At Large, bluegrass and country music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

How could you ever pick one? A baby orca playing peekaboo with the boat off of the San Juan Islands. Drinking homemade dandelion wine and snacking on fox jerky. Indian leg wrestling on the floor of a hotel lobby. Hiking in the bear country of the Grand Tetons.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make ice cream, train your dog, understand TV ratings, look for light.
