About Me

CURRENT MISSION:
To meet new and diverse people and maybe make some good friends!

ABOUT ME:
My name is J.G. and my wife's name is Jenny. We have been married for 20 years and have lived in the Nashville, Tennessee area for 17 years. Despite living here for so long, we've stayed pretty busy, and so still have plenty to discover in this ever changing city. Often having had somewhat exhausting work schedules, we really value our free time, and so we really try to make spending it together a priority.

When at home, we enjoy spending time with friends/family, playing all types of games (video, tabletop, etc.), and going to shows (movies, music, theatre, etc.), but we are perhaps most passionate about traveling, exploring our world, and meeting new people. We look for opportunities to have new experiences and like to travel as our schedules and pockets allow, but we've also discovered that there are a number of cool cheap/free things to do during the summer here in Nashville. Some things we don’t do as often as I might like would be dancing (I love to swing dance in particular, though Jenny is a bit more apprehensive about getting out on a dance floor) and just getting out in nature to fish, camp, hike, etc. – I sometimes forget the sense of adventure that can come from just a walk in the woods. It’s also wonderful getting meet new and interesting people while discovering more of the world around us!

We're very open people and respect others and their ideas. I think that is important. I personally have always been fascinated with people and why we do the things we do, which makes sense now, as we're both in the counseling field.

PHILOSOPHY:
Be honest with yourself and kind to those around you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To see the world from a native perspective and share our part of it with others.

We made our first official CS trip in Jan.'09 to DC and had a wonderful introduction to what it's all about. We have had other great experiences couchsurfing and hosting others. Life has led us away from this incredible way of engaging the world for a few years at a time, but we are excited for the opportunity to engage with fellow Couchsurfers again.

Music, Movies, and Books

We love movies in general and are always down for an epic. We like a very wide variety of music, I won't go through all the specifics, but live music is always great. I write lyrics/music and love to play the Blues.

Though Jenny is an avid reader, I on the other hand finished my first book series ever at 25--Harry Potter. Sad how much catching up I have to do, but I have read The Hobbit and am currently working on The Lord of the Rings, Oi! (it's good, but a tough read for me)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We were on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. when Barrak Obama was sworn in as President of the United States, and experienced the nation's capitol during the momentous week with some amazing CSers and the best of friends!

I think the most amazing things I have in life are moments that aren't easily expressed by words or understood beyond first-hand experiences. But, the most amazing thing I've done is decide to spend the rest of my life with Jenny who is beyond my expression.

I've done cliff diving, sky diving, repelling, spelunking (lots of downward activities I guess). However, most of the stories that get told are of the ridiculous moments, like going to a seafood place in CoCo Beach and ordering everything because they didn't offer a sampler. Impromptu trips, great acts of friendship, and near death experiences somehow come in second to the outlandish or embarrassing at dinner parties, lol.

Teach, Learn, Share

We don't consider ourselves experts really on anything, though we've managed a few nuggets of wisdom in our life's experience, but we are happy to share our ideas and what we've learned.

I'm good with people, in general. I used to teach Swing dancing, and I could teach you how to play harmonica. I can teach you how to eat fire and maybe even juggle, haha. Also, I have always had a knack with food.

Jenny's great with kids, is patient and a good listener. She's a terrific researcher, which can really help when planning a trip, and has recently become quite enthusiastic about decluttering and organization.

We're interested in learning in general. Learning other languages is something we would really like to do, but we have trouble focusing on just one. You should also feel free to send any recipes our way (particularly easy, cheap, or just tasty ones).
