About Me

After college I had a good job working for a nonprofit, but my wanderlust was calling and I left the office in June 2016. For almost a year now I have been traveling with my boyfriend, Tom Hoskins (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/tommy-boy). We helped on a farm in Czech Republic, bused tables in Croatia, and now we're teaching English in Vietnam.

For a while we've been living with hosts and unable to host couchsurfers, but in a couple of months we hope to have an apartment to ourselves so we can finally host some travelers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy sharing experiences with people and learning about were they come from. Its great to hear about other people's travels and get to share my own stories. Conversations with travelers are always the most interesting.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Trial by Franz Kafka

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not really amazing, but a story of hospitality.

Our first few weeks in Saigon my partner and I heard some music coming from down the street, so we went to check it out. We sat down at one of the metal tables set up under the tent and asked for some beers. After a couple of uncomfortable stares I decided to just go buy some beers from the convenient store down the way. When I got back, my partner had been invited to one of the tables and was taking shots with the men. They fed us, laughed with us and we all shared the beers. When the music stopped we asked why and told them we wanted to hear the unusual acoustic sounds. At our request, they began playing again.

Naturally, when the music started we cheered and clapped, only to be hushed by our new friends. Unknowingly, we had crashed a funeral! We felt so terrible to have assumed the gathering was a party and apologized profusely for the family's loss. But they were so happy to share the occasion with us they were nothing but grateful for our attendance. For them to have accepted us during a time of mourning was truly a revelation for me. Vietnam is a country of hospitable and gracious people.
