About Me

ABOUT ME

Always hard to tell. If you ask somebody who really knows me, I think they would would say things like: openminded, "foodlover"(vegetarian), talks way to much, but funny, loves to be with good people at good places. Matti is very good in using superlatives. Sometimes to often.

At the moment he is a student doing history and scandinavian studies. Trying a lot of things, to figure out what to make of it. He is mostly interested in global history. Wants to understand why things are the way they are. History of Globalization and Culture mostly interests him.

PHILOSOPHY

See "Education".

I could write down a bunch of genius lyrics from songwriters I love. Words and sentences that mean a lot to me and have sort of become my philosophy and made me kind of who I am right now.

But listen to them by yourselves. I really recommend: John K. Samson (The Weakterthans), Damien Jurado and of course Bright Eyes. Sure there are many more.

Music, Movies, and Books

BIG Topic

In music it's kind of hard to tell my favourites, because every month there is a new musician, movie or book that is to good to be true. Never can get enough of music in the first way. In combination with black coffee all three things mean much to me.

To name my heroes(hard decision, won't harm the others): Radiohead, Sigur Rós, THE WEAKERTHANS, John K.Samson(the guy i would marry if I were into boys), of course Pearl Jam. To fill in more bands I love for what they do would take toooo much place here I think. The basic think is the "sharing-aspect". There is no better thing than standing, sitting or laying in a room, theatre, small/big/huge hall or auditiorium and listening to music with good people.(made by good people).

Movies.Right. Well, where do i begin? I think i'll do it the short way. I simply love movies. There is nothing better than a good story, thats why I would say I am a movie-nerd. I know it sounds like: "I know everything better than you",but it isn't that way. I simply watch a huge amount of movies every month. It is the perfect way to relax when I am alone. Of course going to the cinema or wathching a movie brought by a friend is the better way :)

I used to read more before the start of my studies. Unfortunately :(. I love reading, but when I had to read in historybooks all day, I simply often don't have the "drive" to read books I planed to read for a long time. I am a person that really needs to be in the mood to read. I am unhappy, not satisfied when I am not concentrated on the words, so that the story goes on and I don't really recognize the real beauty of the authors words, just because I am to tired or unconcentrated.

Also I got not favoritebook. I used to read a lot, but I never had the idea that one book is better than another. I really like: Mann, Brecht,Foster-Wallace, Mankell, Kaminer, Kästner, Murakami... and so on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing things i have done/seen on vacation: - walking around on the Lofot-Islands in Norway was just incredible; - driving through the USA from New York to Seattle in a campingvan. We stayed in incredible landscapes which I will never forget. best sunrises ever; one of my best trips with my best friend to Sweden, where we have done an awesome boattrip.
Hitchhiking from Münster to Marseille and back. Great People, great storys to write down, told by old "over night postcar drivers".
All the great musicians i had the luck to listen to an festivals in Germany, France and Spain. Great, long and noisy nights, with the best people at my side, which I will remember the rest of my life.

It really gives me shivers when I concentrate and remember every single moment. Such a luck.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn more and to share my photographyskills, like people with the same passion teach me some of their expieriences.

I am a drummer. If you are interested, I could give you a introduction in playing it. :) Of course, if you are a drummer. Come with me and show me what you can do. I always want to improve mysef to get better and more flexible.

I would love to learn basics of playing the piano.
