About Me

Hey there, fellow adventurers!

I'm Merve, and I'm thrilled to be a part of the Couchsurfing community. A bit about me: I'm a student teacher who loves to travel, and explore more. Whether it's watching a serie, pracyicing a sport, or şearning a new language, I'm always eager to dive into new experiences and learn from the people I meet along the way.

I'm passionate about exploring new places and getting to know other cultures, and I believe in making a positive impact wherever I go. Whether it's through volunteering, exploring sustainable travel options, or simply spreading kindness, I strive to leave a little bit of goodness wherever I go.

I'm currently traveling with two close friends of mine, and we're excited to explore new places and connect with locals. You can also find their Couchsurfing accounts here: Fatma Derince and Şeyhmus Akarsu.

When I'm not at school, studying, , you can usually find me travelling somewhere new, taking part in an academic project, or practicing a new language. I'm always up for learning something new, so don't hesitate to reach out.

Let's connect, share stories, and embark on new adventures together. Whether you're passing through my city or planning your next epic journey, I can't wait to meet you and make some memories!

Safe travels,
Merve Altınok

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I see travel as more than just visiting new places—it's about connecting with people and immersing myself in different cultures. Every journey I embark on is an opportunity to expand my horizons and learn something new. Through Couchsurfing, I have the chance to meet locals and fellow travelers, exchange stories, and forge meaningful connections that enrich my travel experiences.

I believe that every person I meet has a unique perspective to offer, and by opening myself up to new connections, I gain a deeper understanding of the places I visit. Whether it's swapping travel tips, sharing a meal, or simply engaging in heartfelt conversations, Couchsurfing allows me to dive beneath the surface and truly experience the essence of a destination.

For me, Couchsurfing isn't just about finding a place to stay—it's about building friendships, fostering cultural exchange, and creating memories that last a lifetime. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of this vibrant community, and I look forward to the countless adventures and connections that lie ahead.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can't imagine my life without listening to music. It's like the necessary nutrition for my soul. My favourite genres are Indie-pop, Indie-rock, Turkish-rock, Pop and especially chill songs. I like watching romantic comedi movies from time to time. My favourite romantic comedi movie is the Before Trilogy. I enjoy watching sitcoms as series. My favourite sitcom series are Friends, New Girl, and How I Met Your Mother( FYI, I think Robin does not deserve anything.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We were in Brussels, at the main square. There were Fatma, Şeyhmus, and me. A street dancer was trying to adjust his stereo to play some music to the crowd. We helped him, then he asked us if we want to play a music in exchange. We played a song from Turkish folklore and started to show him the steps. In the end, there were five or six people dancing Turkish folklore with us, and the crowd was watching us with their cameras on. It was an amazing moment for us.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to teach Turkish or share insights about my culture. I'm also eager to learn about anything interesting, especially general knowledge and other cultures. I enjoy talking about fun facts and trivia. Most importantly, I love sharing my joy, positivity, and smile with others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

During my stay, I'm excited to share aspects of my culture through food, music, and traditions, fostering a meaningful cultural exchange. I'm eager to swap travel stories and share my adventures, offering insights and tips from my journeys. Additionally, I'm open to sharing my skills or talents, whether it's playing an instrument, cooking a special dish, or practicing yoga. With a deep respect for my host's space and rules, I'll contribute to the household and express gratitude for their hospitality. I may even bring a small gift from my home country as a token of appreciation. Through genuine connections and shared experiences, I hope to make my Couchsurfing stay memorable for both myself and my host.
