About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling on the other side of the world and having the time of my life :)

ABOUT ME

"How would your friends describe your character" Everyone likes this kind of question, don't they? ;) I am pretty sure my friends would say that I am very easy going and open. I am willing to try new things and therefore can integrate easily. Living in Australia since January I stayed at many different places. Sometimes I even didn't know the people I stayed with but it always worked out really well and I am still in touch with them. Most of the time I am happy and smile a lot... I try to make the best out of every situation and to keep everyone else happy as well. For over six months I have worked as an Au pair in Canberra so my host parents would say that I am reliable and responsible for sure... and flexible! ...which is a must if you want to live with an Aussie family. ;) I enjoy meeting new people and found some very good friends in Down Under.
So I have been travelling through Australia for one year now. I started as an Au pair in Canberra and fell in love with Oz. Instead of going back to Germany after six monthy - which was the original plan - I decided to go on work and travel. Until now I travelled through the east and south, had another job as an Au pair in Melbourne (short - time this time) and had several farm jobs in Bowen, QLD where I lived for three months. After travelling down the coast with friends in a campervan - it was very cosy ;) - I did Wwoofing and made holidays from the holidays in Indonesia. I have three more months left until I go back home to Germany and can't wait to finally see the other side of Australia. I am looking forward to see the west coast, the red earth, deserts, national parks, uluru and on and on it goes... :)

PHILOSOPHY

I try to take as much with me as possible. Some opportunities you have only once in your life and I don't want to miss anything. This is why I wanted to go abroad before I start university and I decided to do work and travel after my time as Au pair - there is so much to see and learn! Also during my studies I plan on going abroad... I like the refrain of the song “Details in the fabric”: “Hold your own, know your name and go your own way...” You shouldn't care too much about what other people say...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I am travelling trough Australia - and a bit through Asia recently - I can only surf right now. But I want to give back what I receive here - welcoming and gernerous hosts! I am going back to Germany in a few months and when I finally have a couch to offer I definitely will! :)
Depending on your idea of hosting I'd like to hang out with you or leave space to you - I try to make everything as convenient for you as possible. I appreaciate finding a host and would be happy to make new friends! For sure I love sharing stories - I never stop learning and I am very interested in people and their different characters and experiences - this is also why I want to study psychology.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done couchsurfing once which was a very positive experience. This is why I hope to make many more good ones soon. My host welcomed my friend and me and shared many interesting stories, especially about her travels through Europe and her knowledge about Aborigines in Australia. Obviously I am still a “newcomer” but I have lived with many Aussie families already. I stayed with friends of my former host family, who I didn't know before. But it worked out great and I am still in touch with all of them. As I have lived in another host family - I have been a short - time Au pair in Melbourne too - I can integrate easily and have lived in several homes. Furthermore I have done house swaping and I did Wwoofing on a farm in Narooma where I lived and worked for a nice family. They even invited me to stay at their other house in Sydney which I appreciated and enjoyed a lot.

Interests

I am responsible and grown up as I have been travelling on my own on the other side of the world for one year now. Still I am a person who prefers hanging out with other people. Everywhere I have been I meet lovely people who made my time abroad so special. I love meeting up with friends, no matter if for a quiet chat, a fun trip or clubbing. Though what I most enjoy doing with them is watching a good movie, playing board games, having a nice dinner or doing sports. Depending on where I am I like to do different kind of sports, skiing, skating, swimming or gym - but my favourite one is dancing for sure! Back in Germany I did Zumba, Hip Hop, Jazz and more... and I can't wait to attend my old dancing groups soon again. :) I like reading a good book, extending my cooking and baking skills, doing arts and crafts and doing trips of course. Recently I did my PADI Open Water Diver in Indonesia – I love scuba diving and hope to do it in WA soon!

Music, Movies, and Books

A bit of everything... I am very mainstream with those kind of things.
Music: Often just plain radio... In clubs I like to dance to house and especially black. But in dancing classes I enjoy Jazz mostly. I love R&B or pop or any other music you can dance to. Rock as well but no heavy metal. ;)
Books: I read fantasy, period drama and historical especially.
Movies: I love historical, dramas and comedy.
My favourites are at the moment (books) Harry Potter and Sookie Stackhouse; (movies, TV) True Blood, The Big Bang Theory, Pride and Prejudice, Mamma Mia and Grease (I grew up with it ;))
There might be some contrasts but I can't help it. ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Honestly that is very hard to say... Important moments for me where several dancing performances I had. Espially one big performance when I had a special role.
And I think my gap year in Down Under is a big point here...
It was such a great feeling when I was in Sydney the first time... It is an awesome city, famous everywhere and on the other side of the world. This was the moment when I first really realized that I live in Australia now. I had so many special moments here I don't want to miss and I will always remember. Not every moment was fun – for example when I was homeless for two nights – but in the end the experience makes you smile when you look back and share it with others – so they were all quite positive.
And I am very proud of my Scuba diving licence I have done in Indonesia. I couldn't even imagine to have one back in Germany which is why I am so excited about it. :)
