About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live joyfully, celebrate thoroughly, and learn to bake the perfect scone.

ABOUT ME

I am a person who delights in life, values delicious food, a good laugh, swimming in the sea, walking in the woods, making music, singing into the wee hours, the company of friends, good coffee, and cups of tea with milk and maple syrup. I recently completed my thesis, a study of harmony through architecture, music, and craft theory, and graduated from Marlboro College with a degree in Liberal Studies/Aesthetics that I'm not quite sure what to do with. For the next few months I'll be roaming around New England until I decide to settle down in one place or another. While I roam I will likely be gamboling about reading fiction books, playing fiddle, eating strawberries, going swimming, singing in stairwells, helping other people grow vegetables, practicing handstands, and undertaking various baking projects. I can't offer a place to stay at the moment but I would be happy to meet up!

PHILOSOPHY

The simple things are really the biggest, in the end, and the more butter, the better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I offer my couch to you (when I have one) and hope to visit some couches in the future! I used to daydream of the days when a passing traveler could ask for lodging at the nearest house, and be welcomed in to sleep in the hayloft, be fed dinner, and wake to the sound of cows being milked. This is perhaps the next best thing. (Especially if you have cows.) I'm excited about being part of a global community where people open their homes to each other.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had an amazing time visiting and staying with couchsurfing hosts in Italy and Turkey, and I've had a great time meeting couchsurfers in the US--I am currently in between homes, but I look forward to being able to host when I next have a place to do so! I look forward to sharing some of the generosity I have received from hosts abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Tomten, the Quiltmaker's Gift, The Phantom Tolbooth, all of Tamora Pierce's Tortall books.

Billy Elliot, The Princess Bride, The Secret of Roan Inish, Les Choristes, Amelie, anything made by Hayao Miyazaki.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saw a shooting comet that was as big as a grapefruit and was bright green/blue, and lasted for long enough that I could gasp and say wow twice.

Saw a little boy cheering up his even smaller brother when he couldn't accompany their father, smoothing his hair and kissing him on the cheek.

Met people who live through war continuing to smile and love.

Watched the morning sun rise over the pond and through the trees in Montville, Maine.

Stood in the grassy field in Brooksville, Maine, full of dancing fireflies. It looked like the sky was on the ground.

Ridden on horseback in the mountains of Ushguli, Georgia, weaving our way through knee-high wildflowers.

Swirled my limbs through the waters of the Black Sea, watching in wonder as the tiny phosphorescent creatures lit up around me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I suppose I could teach you how to yodel, or make your voice sound like a bagpipe. I'm sure that's something you want to know how to do. You might lose all your friends (if you don't practice with discretion), but you'd have a cool new skill. I could teach you how to darn most any woolen garment, how to cook mushrooms to their perfection, or how to make a spectacular maple cheesecake. And songs! I've got lots of those up my sleeve.

As for what I'd like to learn, I'd be here all night if I tried to tell you! Woodworking, more jokes, how to speak Spanish, cyr wheel, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Songs! Meals! Stories! Random words in many languages. Thorough dishwashing abilities! A lively sense of humor. An appetite for benevolent mischief.
