About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn with intention, teach by accident.

ABOUT ME

I'm a filmaker living in San Diego, California with my wife and two kids. Over 10 years ago I used Couchsurfing to travel through Greece and Turkey and then hosted quite a bit of travelers while in college back home. I had the best times with the people I met and occasionally like to meet people still on CS during my travels. I love to surf and do anything active, play music, studied philosophy in college and have nothing with that degree. Instead I’ve carved my own path in the world and enjoy working for myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started out like most CSers...surfing during my travels but then hosted many people while living in SD. I enjoyed being a host just as much as surfing with other people. During the times of our lives when the daily routine becomes monotonous its awesome having people around who are stoked on life ...it really picks you up.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It is better to submerge yourself in a culture rather than observing it at a tourists distance. Do it right, don't rush in all of a countries sights and monuments to the neglect of the people and culture that created them. Through surfing and hosting I am now proud to say I have a network of friends all around the world that I can connect with while abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I'm home I usually read travel literature and classics written by foreign authors, while I'm abroad I end up reading Steinbeck and other American authors who remind me of the life and land that I left behind.

"As I thought of all this stirring drama, my own life, imprisoned by apartment walls, surrounded by self-satisfied people, caught in the ruts of convention and responsibility, seemed drab. In my own way I too had been a wonderer. I had tasted the drug of romantic travel, and I could not rest from it...Adventure! Adventure! That was the escape; that was the remedy. I knew there was no turning back once one had broken from the nest of colorless security, and spread one's own young wings, and visited the tall strange tree-tops across the valley that had always been beckoning." - Richard Halliburton (The Glorious Adventure)

"...the homeless, timeless life of the traveler. Obedient to no man, dependent only on weather and season, without a goal before them or a roof above them, owning nothing, open to even whim of fate, at the homeless wonderers lead their childlike, brave, shabby existence...time does not exist for them and neither does history, or ambition, or that bizarre idol called progress and evolution, in which house owners believe so desperately." Hermann Hesse (Narcissus and Goldmund)

Mark Twain
"Twenty years from now you will be more
disappointment by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover"

The Prophet by Kahil Gibran
"You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. For what are your possessions but things you keep and guard for fear you may need them tomorrow?"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I like weird things. Like dancing around a bonfire under the stars in a primitive fashion. I like going places without a plan and throwing myself at the mercy of random strangers for food and shelter and a hell of a good time. They seem to like it too. I like camping in places that incur risk. The night becomes more apparent.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you guitar, English, share all I know about philosophy and coffee too. I can cook for my hosts, its one of my favorite aspects of CouchSurfing.

Freedom is the ability to live in the present moment without the pressures of the past and the fears of tomorrow. I try always to remain aware of these words during my travels and at home.
