ABOUT ME

Friendly, energetic and spontaneous young lady who tries to make memories. I enjoy most things, like movies, bowling, parks, chilling and going out.

I love traveling and exploring new areas, which is why I am currently in Venice (Florida, USA) for the next year as an au pair. I get to study, work and travel at the same time. I'm excited to see what the States has in store for a South African girl such as myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I 'learnt' about CS while in Europe and surfed a few times. In South Africa I live with my dad, so I'm unable to host. Here in Venice I live with a host family, so I think it's pretty much illegal to bring "strangers" into the house where there are kids, so I can't host here either.

I do try to meet as many travelers as possible wherever I go.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couch-surfed in Europe (Germany to be exact) and I had such a blast! I had cool hosts and I would like to experience it in other countries I will visit in the future.

I met some couchsurfers in Thailand in 2017 who I still keep contact with. I've also met up with surfers in NYC and hopefully many more in the upcoming year.

Interests

When it comes to working, I work hard. I study when it comes down to it, my main focus being childcare as well as business management.

When it comes to play, I do that too. Be it boardgames (Ticket to Ride and Heads Up being at the top of my list!), going bowling or having a fun night out at the club, I'm sure to enjoy it.

My photography hobby as been on hold for a while now, but hopefully my travels around the US will spark that flame and I can start taking some good pictures again.

Back in South Africa I was very active in social sports: netball, touch rugby and obstacle course racing. I'm yet to find a sport here that I like, until then I miss team sports and I use up my energy at the gym. I'm thinking of taking up boxing soon...

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My taste in music ranges from hip-hop, to pop, to country and Afrikaans. It depends on the mood.

I'd rather watch 5 episodes of a series [The Blacklist, The Mentalist, Hawaii Five-O, Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Once upon a time, NCIS and Bones], than sit through a movie. Movies I like are usually either action-packed or comedy, which both always end up with a love story that I cry for every single time.

Books: I don't read unless I'm forced to by the school.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've cliff jumped about 23m into the ocean.
I also travelled through Europe alone for 2 months.
I've shot a gun.
I'm au pairing in the USA.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn words and phrases in different languages and in return I can teach you Afrikaans.
I want to, actually NEED to, learn how to cook.
I want to share different travel-stories and hear about as many countries possible!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach my hosts some Afrikaans (one of South Africa's 11 languages) words, phrases and sentences.
I can teach hosts how to braai (the South African version of a barbeque).
I can share some funny stories about South Africa and which "myths" are true, and which aren't: For the record, we don't have lions roaming in the streets. Yet...
