ABOUT ME

I'm a nerd/geek/dork. I can read all day, day after day. I'm a language buff and a tinkerer. Most of the time, I fix my friends' computers for fun. Sometimes I break them, also for fun.

I'm also a psychology/philosophy/cognitive science dork. I have to warn you up front: although I'm a psychology major, I don't read minds, offer free instant diagnoses of mental disorders, or analyze your relationship with your parents. That was Freud, and he went out of fashion about 70 years ago. I've had it with correcting people's misconceptions of psychology. So don't even make jokes about it - you can bet I've heard all the psychology jokes before. However! I can give you statistically validated tests that psychologists actually use that you'll enjoy taking, and then I can tell you exactly how neurotic or agreeable you are compared to the general population.

I enjoy political philosophy, but hate politics. Go figure.

Two things I couldn't care less about are diets and sports. I drink half and half instead of milk (yeah, that stuff with 10% fat that you put in your coffee - it tastes good - try it), love fast food, and of course hate exercise. Don't expect anything fat-free, sugar-free or low-calorie in my house. Surprisingly, I'm on the slim side of humanity. Go figure.

I decided some time ago that I will never have a TV in my house. So far, it's still true. I watch The Simpsons on fox.com sometimes when my brain is truly dead, but that's the extent of my exposure to pop culture. Your Seinfeld references will probably be lost on me.

Possibly to compensate for said lack of culture, I listen to music all day. My favorite list features Bach, Stratovarius, Pink Martini, Flo Rida, Jay Chou and a large quantity of obscure Vietnamese and Chinese pop.

Last summer, before going to Europe, I promised myself I would learn the art of light packing and will never check a bag again. Since then, I have consistently traveled with no more than a small backpack and a handbag. Buying travel versions of everything: $20. The feeling when I step off the plane/bus and simply walk off while my fellow passengers stand around waiting for their bags: priceless.

I enjoyed taking the SAT. Go on, hate me.

The first thing I will do when I move into my own apartment is adopt a cat.

My hobby: pretend on email I'm a native English speaker, then show up in person with a heavy Vietnamese accent and wait for the other party to go, "But your English is/was perfect!" You have been warned.

I have a stationery fetish. A good gel pen can keep me happy all day.

I adore guys with glasses and brown hair. Especially if said guy is funny.

I suspect I may have ADD, but am not going to get myself checked because if it turns out I do have it, I'd use it as an excuse to slack off in school.

I cringe when people repeat their own jokes, either immediately or at a later date.

I type 90 WPM and talk at about the same rate, in both English and Vietnamese. I can also type with my eyes closed.

I check xkcd and icanhascheezburger.com compulsively.
