About Me

My name's Micael. I'm from Coimbra, Portugal. I work at an engineering company while I do my postdoc studies in the process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Cause I can...?

Living alone so I guess it's easy to have people sticking around. On the other hand, I often travel due to conferences and so on, so I may as well need a place to crash :)

Interests

work, sports, work, friends and hangout, work, movies and series, work, internet, work, ...something's wrong here :P

I'm a bit of a workaholic, I admit, but I also like many other things, namely everything that can challenge me at some level or make me learn something out of it. Hangout with interesting people is quite one of my favorite things, especially if they are from different backgrounds than me (e.g., arts) - I can always learn something and even, eventually, teach ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
Somewhat mood-dependent and, then again, it's a too long list. Preferred styles: Rock; Indie-Rock; Folk-Rock; Grunge; Nu Metal.
Some few bands I can list at the moment: Mumford and Sons; Of Monsters and Men; Alt-J; Fun.; Queen; Nirvana; 30 Seconds to Mars (old ones); Linkin Park (old ones); Pearl Jam; Kings Of Leon.

Movies
Well, that's a too long list so I won't even grasp the surface of it. Let's just say that I like almost all sort of genres (though romance and too much drama isn't my strong suit). Let's just list some few movies I can recall (I may miss most of them though, so sorry about it):
LOTR; Matrix series; Avatar; many Marvel and DC Comics movies (Man of Steel and Guardians of the Galaxy are good examples); Perfect Sense; The Man from Earth; The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; Terminator series (more the old ones though...); Mission Impossible series; Star Wars series; many science-related non-fictional movies (The Theory of Everything and A Beautiful Mind are good examples); Butterfly Effect (the first movie of the series); Cloud Atlas; Interstellar; Crash.

Books
I haven't been into fiction lately to be honest - my books have been focused on team building (e.g., Thomas Kayser) and organization health (Patrick Lencioni), mainly because of the company, and some more to feed my science side, such as chaos theory (James Gleick).
Last science fiction book I've read some couple of months ago was Robopocalypse, from Daniel Wilson - end of the world with robots? Lovely :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I could try to brag a bit more about myself, but that's really what I'm good at - writing papers, maths & engineering, coding, leading projects, and so on. I guess that the most amazing things I've done sort of revolve around these skills.

Dunno why there isn't a question asking me what amazingly bad things I've done, but I'm glad there isn't :D

Teach, Learn, Share

To teach
Maths, programming, engineering :D very interesting stuff indeed...
Okay, I may also be able to teach more "regular" stuff, like how to cook great Portuguese food :P

To learn
New cultures, new philosophies, new experiences, how to cook foreign food, etc...

To share
Good company :)
I can share good entertaining moments with nice talks about many different topics, and eventually some cognitive challenges (even physical, like sharing some jogging early in the morning)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll give them the choice to ask for something and then we'll take it from there ;)

Countries I’ve Visited
