About Me

I like riding my bicycle, hula hooping, running, drinking tea, laughing, origami, going exploring, chilling on my roof, listening to good music, getting a beer, going to shows, talking about science, playing board games, solving mysteries, hiking, playing fun pranks on friends, volunteering, and being curious.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a poor graduate student and can't afford hotels when I travel, but really staying in a hotel limits one's experience in a new place. My college roommate hosted people on this site a few years ago, and we met some wonderful people travelling through Nashville. I miss that experience and want to pick it back up

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite book is Moby Dick. Melville has convinced me that whales are the most amazing creatures ever.

Some others I've enjoyed: A Wrinkle in Time, The Odyssey, anything by Italio Calvino, Isaac Asimov, or Herman Hesse, Greek tragedy, Sappho's poetry, The Phantom Tollbooth, Contact by Carl Sagan, Mrs. Dalloway, A Separate Peace.

Movies: I Heart Huckabees, Totoro, Damsels in Distress (the one by Whit Stillman), Contact, 2001, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rocky Horror.

My favorite bands are mewithoutYou and Nana Grizol. Other bands that I like are Explosions in the Sky, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Good Luck, King Creosote, Broken Social Scene, Nugabes, old Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Rosa, Architecture in Helsinki, Jenny Lewis, sometimes Conor Oberst, and Neutral Milk Hotel. My younger brother is a professional bagpipe player and I think bagpipe music is pretty great.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love collaborating on cooking. I'm practicing making Thai food right now and haven't quite gotten the spices right yet, but I'm working on it!

Countries I’ve Visited
