About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Seeing the world, without being a tourist. Lois and I are currently retired. At home, we host couchsurfers, feed homeless folks, do handyman jobs for people in need, and garden a bit.

ABOUT ME

Drive an electric car. Have solar panels on the roof. Feed birds. Celebrate Jewish holidays.

Adventurous, humorous, naturalist, spiritual, engineer, teacher, handy. Science teacher first, then later a structural engineer (bridge design). Now retired. My wife and I love meeting people by way of couchsurfing, both hosting and surfing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Both host and surf. We usually cook some meals for our guests, and occasionally cook for our hosts when we're on the road.

Portland: Portland drew many people in the 1970's who were interested in nature and environmental protection. More recently it has drawn people who are talented in theater, art, cooking and unusual lifestyles.

What to do: Restaurants and Food Carts. Wineries, Coffee Shops. Amateur and Professional Theater, Performance Art, Music, Craft Beer, Movie Theaters, Vintage and locally made clothing stores, people watch... alternative lifestyles and sexualities, interesting weirdness.

Mcmenimin’s and other fabulous beer palaces

Unusual neighborhoods: Mississippi, Hawthorne, Alberta, St. Johns

Hiking, Waterfalls, Hot Springs, skiing (alpine and Nordic).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in Nicaragua, Vietnam, Cambodia, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, New Zealand and Australia and all through the USA. Love the experience of meeting people and getting to know them. Have hosted many times at our home.
