About Me

Hey!

So the very basics are that I'm a 23 year old Photography graduate from England. Originally I grew up in the Middle of England (Derbyshire) and had a very sheltered lifestyle. What I'm really saying is I never really travelled much or met many new people. I moved on to study at Falmouth University (6 hours from home which in England is pretty much the whole country) and began to realise the world is a pretty big place. At University I studied Photography but had also studied Graphic Design and co owned a website designing business prior to University. Of course there is many things I could tell you about myself at this point but I also know it should come up in conversation should I meet you?

As a person I try to be as genuine and honest as I can be. I'm the kind of person that believes good can come of everything - even the bad situations tech you something you didn't know before - as well as often putting others before myself far too often - I don't mind putting myself in a bad situation because that's my problem, but I hate letting other people down. I always think as long as you do what you think is right with the right intentions that things will work out for you in one way or another. One of my problems is probably how sentimental and attached I get to people, though I guess it means I also make good friends easily? I was in Brisbane for 3 months and met some incredible people at New year (2 weeks before leaving), it ended in me making them all cry a little bit when I left and staying in touch with them all (Plus the other friends I've made so far) at least once a week - It makes leaving places difficult though!

OH! I also should say I'm quite openminded and want to truly experience things much more than I have been. So, a night in a jazz club? That's fine. Learn how to Salsa? Okay.

I guess I'm rambling on a bit now but hopefully this helps with an understanding to who I am and encourages you to meet me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The thing I've found myself so interested in while being over in Australia isn't the place I am but the people there. I've even visited places more than once purely to go with the different people. I suppose Coach surfing provides one of the best platforms to meet such lovely people who are willing to let people staying in their homes. Everybody I've spoken too who couch surfs all have good things to say and even close friends that come from it, and I guess that's what I'm after more than anything. It would also be nice to hear so many different peoples stories about their travels or life up to now as I've had such a sheltered life until now. Does that sound a bit cheesy?...

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is such a difficult one to pic a favourite. I'm one of those annoying people that can't really commit to a genre because I like different things for different moods. I often like relaxed music more often than not, but recently I have started to get back in to the 'band scene'. I had a phase of the typical pop chart music not too long ago and before that I was REALLY in to Rock 'n' Blues. Finally, I also like finding my own music that isn't so mainstream, so some Alternative music is also pretty great. It's probably better to try explaining what I don't like?

Movies and Books aren't really something I spend time with really. I like the typical films most people like such as The Hobbit, Transformers and all those. I quite like watching action movies or comedy movies, mainly because I don't have to focus so intensely on them. As for books, I really should read more and am currently trying to read one related to Mindfulness but my spare time mostly consists of editing photos more than anything!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There's a lot of things I'm proud of doing, but the one that comes to mind instantly is one that I actually haven't done yet.
When I was 12, I had my first love and first kiss with a girl called Katherine, I was with her for a year and a half. We then remained best friends ever since then - So you can guess how close we were and how close I am with her family. Unfortunately, at the start of 2017 Katherine (My first love) passed away. This isn't supposed to be a sad explanation though so I'll skip the sad bits!
So I never wanted a tattoo or even really liked them for my whole life, but now I have a tattoo of a crow flying and a sparrow following behind it. The crow represents Katherine as it's her family bird and 3 generations of her family have it tattooed (I asked permission from her mother and she was honoured that I'd even consider it). That in itself is amazing for me with my phobia of needles and dislike of tattoos. Obviously, the sparrow is a representation of me as it's something my dad has always called me. There's much more to this tattoo that I haven't explained but would be happy to speak about given the chance!
ANYWAY, I'm terrified of heights but basically, I'm organising a sponsored skydive to raise money for a Mental health charity as well as the charity that helped Katherine's family with the hard time after losing her. I should also explain that Katherines goal in life was to become a nurse and work in the place with the worst patients who need help the most. She succeeded with that and always said 'they're people too'. This girl is the person who has shaped and influenced who I am since I was 12 and now I feel it's an amazing thing that I can try and do on behalf of her.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would LOVE to teach people anything that I'm capable of. Helping people is something I get quite a lot of happiness from. My main skills that come to mind would be Photography (Capturing an image and editing), maybe a bit of graphic design, football, English - I have been teaching so many people English already and genuinely love it, I have even been reading over CV's.

I'm happy to learn absolutely anything people can teach me. Any language would be amazing, cooking because I can't cook for the life of me, any strange tricks, how to play poker, how to fish. I've said already that I've had a sheltered life and now I'm trying to make the most of my opportunity on the other side of the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Honestly? I don't really like talking myself up too much but I'd like to think I would be a respectful, talkative person around the house willing to help where I can. I can help with any English if needed, I'm happy to teach and share anything that I know about and even learn new things with anybody. I would genuinely be a shoulder to cry on if they needed. It would be great to be able to share some good experiences exploring with them too! Maybe even a cup of tea and biscuits because I have had a brew in so long!
More than anything, I think honesty and openness is the best for everybody and I wouldn't want to be a burden to anybody. I'd hope that a host wouldn't feel crap about coming home to me on their couch, and if they needed space just tell me to go grab a coffee and get out (Or talk to me about anything, that works too).
