Overview
About Me
Hey there, I'm Michael from New Zealand. I'm currently on a 100 day scholarship programme learning the arts and culture of Indonesia - and am based in Surabaya. I have enjoyed my time in this incredibly diverse and exciting country, but I feel I have more to see! Though my time here is getting shorter, I aspire to learn as much as I possibly can while I am on this amazing escapade.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet locals at a very personal level, and to learn their opinions and experiences - as well as to enhance my capabilities of travelling around Indonesia!
Interests
As a sonic artist, I have learnt to appreciate any kind of music.. even the prayer songs which wake me up at 4am ;)
I love to travel (though I haven't done a lot of it previous to Indonesia)
I am always up for an adventure, and love to meet new people.
I am also keen to learn as much Bahasa Indonesia as I can whilst still immersed.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love all music!
I don't really have movie preferences.. I can always find a way to appreciate even the.. not so great movies
I don't really read books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Became the representative of New Zealand on this world-wide scholarship programme! Out of 70 participants from 50 countries, this program has enriched and augmented my knowledge of just about everything. I have learnt so many new things - not only from Indonesia, but from different cultures all over the world!
It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity I will never forget.
What I Can Share with Hosts
As I am from an English speaking country, I am always up to help out with any questions about the language. I can offer a good time, as I am a fun, easily excitable, energetic person. I can't offer much more than my utmost appreciation to these kind individuals who give up their homes for near-strangers. It's really quite inspirational - so much so that I will take up the hosting role once I get back home to New Zealand.
