About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn German and travel!

ABOUT ME

Whether or not I have a good day hinges on the progression of my ongoing battles with my two main adversaries: the German language and the lock on the door to my apartment. Although I receive constant positive feedback and motivation from friends to increase my German level, my pessimism and lack of confidence (due to being completely demoralized by my tricky door lock) I stick to English as much as possible. Should you happen to be a locksmith or just one who has a way with stubborn doors, I beg you, surf my couch.

Should you catch me on a day where I haven't been accosted and defeated by an Austrian dialect then I believe I'm quite easy to get along with. If you visit us (myself, my girlfriend Lisa, and my large [vertically], usually hungry, and always smiley roomie Tobi) then you can expect a relatively fun stay full of revelry and mischievousness.

Key things to get along with me (us):
Stereotyping is funny.
It's okay to make fun of George W. Bush, it's not okay to make fun of Obama.
We like Harry Potter.
We don't like Twilight.
Pretending to like my cooking increases the quality of your living facilities.
Drinking games could possibly be required.

PHILOSOPHY

"Take it easy baby, take it as it comes." -bathroom graffiti in an irish pub in Innsbruck. Read it a few years ago when I fell in love with this place and it stuck.

"A photo needs to be more interesting than the subject or it has no purpose." -Read it somewhere. Remembered the quote, forgot the speaker.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted, I've surfed, I've met up with people for drinks, and I've never had a bad experience. Everyone I've had the pleasure of meeting has been someone I now consider a friend. I can show you around my city, or better yet, around the nature outside my city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted several people and surfed a few times, including an entire eastern US road trip. It was the best decision we made. No better way to see a city than with the locals.

Interests

Photography! Running with my track club. Hiking and climbing a little. Wandering around a new city with no plan or destination. Watching sports. Climbing trees. Staring at the awesome Innsbruck mountains like a little kid in NYC. Streaming funny TV shows. Drinking red wine, refusing beers, and constantly explaining why.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Live
Movies: Funny
Books: Lots of them. About business, running, and boy wizards who defeat dark lords.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met an Austrian girl one time, got to know her better over time. I saw her a few times when she studied in America before I asked her to stay with me for the summer. I fell in love with her and decided to quit my studies less than a year from completion to move to Austria and be with her. Is that an amazing thing or just a little foolish? Both? Good.

Oh and one time I did a handstand on the Great Wall of China.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is pretty awesome. I like the idea that everyone can learn from everyone. I think a teacher, college professor, or boss at a job should learn as much as they can from their students as opposed to thinking they already know everything. I don't think we ever stop learning and education is one thing that nobody can ever take away from you.

I can help you develop your English language skills or tell you what I know about investment, business, or banking but I don't pretend to be an expert in any of them. Likewise, I would love to learn about different cultures, business in those cultures, international relations, languages, etc.

Sometimes intellectual discussions over a glass of wine about cultural differences and relations can be just as entertaining as a night out on the town.
