I surfed at a few times and I've had very nice experiences.
I've always met interesting people and discussed interesting ideas and views of the world.
I understand how necessary it is to have the "home" feeling when travelling.
Mingling with one of the locals is certainly one of the nicest experiences you can have when traveling.
