About Me

--------

Hello everyone!

My name is Michaela but friends call me Míša (Mischa). I studied addictology at the Charles University in Prague, but in the end social media and environment took priority in my life. I am friendly and communicative person who loves sports (surf, snowboard, longboard and so much more!), fun, parties, boardgames, travelling, adrenaline experience and meeting new people from around the world.

George has Ph.D. in chemistry but he also did'nt end up working in the field. He is like me, only his passion for adrenaline is bit lower. He is also bigger movie fan than me, he keeps watching news about upcoming movies and knows a lot of interesting things.

If we send you a request, don't hesitate to ask and we can have videochat so you will know we are not some serial killers :))

We are very clean and organized so you do not have to worry about mess with us.

We love doing yoga, board games, live minimalistic lifestyle and try to do as much as we can for protection of our planet. We started project called MJ Aquaholics (IG: mjaquaholics, website: ekodolan.org ). It focuses on picking up trash in nature and spreading the awareness about water pollution also through educative talks in schools. In the 2023 we came back to Czech from Central America, we had wedding and started our NGO - EkoDolan, to be able to do more positive impact on this beautiful planet.

Our current goal is to travel through Dominican Republic (also visit some Carribean Islands) and pick up some trash there) and later to go to Colombia and rest of the South America. We can't wait to visit beautiful places, meet with local people, enjoy all the delicious food and try to raise awareness about trash in the environment. Fingers crossed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Plain and simple - locals are the best for introducing you to a new place/city/country. We love travelling and meeting new people. Couchsurfing is just amazing! Thanks to CS, we were able to make some of the best friendships around the world and had some incredible experiences.

We lived 3 years in Barcelona so here you have some tips:

First of all, be very careful with your things. Barcelona has over 1000 reported robberies per week. It is really crazy there. We got robbed twice plus one other case when I noticed how some guy was trying to take Jirka's phone.

For transportation here is the best to buy T-casual (10 trips for 11 euros). The special Hola Barcelona tickets are usually unnecessary and pricy.

Tips to visit:
Sagrada Familia (inside is not that fascinating or impressive but with the right sunlight, might be interesting for someone)
For Gaudi's fans: Casa Mila, Casa Batlló
Placa Espanya with Royal Palace and Magic Mountain (plays music and changes colours , timetable here:https://www.barcelona.com/barcelona_directory/attractions_in_barcelona/magic_fountain)
Placa Catalunya and La Rambla are the busiest places
Barrio Gotico for historical feel
Montjuic Hill and Castle has nice view.
Bunkers de Carmel offer better view (just my opinion)
Parc Guell is next to the Bunkers, intreresting place with Gaudi's elements
Tibidabo is a must if you are a fan of Friends, there are attractions and cathedral + nice view
It is also nice to walk by the beach promenade.
Parc Arc del Triumph is great to chill in.
Flee Market on Glories might be interesting for someone.

We used to live in Prague in Czech Republic so here are few tips as well:
First of all, don't use taxi by yourself! Only in really necessary cases. Taxi drivers will usualy charge you more when they hear English, it is bad there. It happened to our friends from Amsterdam, taxi driver wanted three times more money! Luckily, we were there to deal with him, at the end he charged normal price.

I don't want to scare you of, Prague is otherwise beautiful city. The highlights are Oldtown Square with Astronomical clock, Charles Bridge, Hradčany, Malá strana, Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square with National Museum (which is now under reconstruction) and the Peace Square. If you are rather fan of nature or parks, Divoká Šárka, Letná or Petřín are really nice places. It is also beautiful to walk by the river. If you would walk long enough heading north, there is beautiful and queit valley (where George's Institut is situated). The view from Vyšehrad (probably our favourite place in Prague) or Petřín is great.

You can mostly just walk around the highlights without using public transportation but the ticket prices are not bad if you'll be in lazy mood:
ca. 1,2 euro for one-way ticket
ca. 5 euros for 24 hour ticket
ca. 12 euros for three days ticket

Movies/TV shows:
Dude, where is my car?, Marvel movies, The Girl Next Door, Shawshank Redemption, Charmed, Friends, Good Place, K-Pax, Cool Runnings, Lost, Survivor, Wind River, Sex Education and so much more!

Plus, we love trashy reality show like Too Hot to Handle etc.!

Books:
Michelle: Harry Potter, Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (or in general books from my field of study)
George: Harry Potter, Asimov's Foundation or anything from him, Popular science books like Brief History of Time from Stephen Hawking or Sapiens from Yuval Noah Harari

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When we surfing on Cocoa beach in Florida a group of dolphins swam and surfed with us, that was super cool, but honestly every single travel experience is an amazing thing for us.

Island hopping on Caramoan was superb especially for us - huge fans of reality show Survivor!

While traveling in El Salvador, I saw a sign on a local bus that said, throw your trash out the window. So I changed it to "Don't throw trash out. I uploaded a video about it on Tiktok and it was even seen and mentioned in a speech by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can share our travel stories, play some games, learn language together (we'd love to speak in Spanish), cook something together (we have a Czech cook book in Spanish with us at all times) and surely much more. We can go cleaning nature around your home if you´d like. Let's simply have fun and having new experiences and learning new things is fun.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As mentioned above, we have scanned copy of cook book with the best Czech recepies written in Spanish, so we may bring a little bit of Czech culture into your stomach.

We can just talk and share stories, surely there will be something to do or talk about.
