Hi there!
My name is Michaela and I come from Slovakia - but you already know that. It´s hard to say where I grew up, cause we moved 5 times - and I already lived 6 years alone at dormitory. Come to think of it, maybe that is the reason why I felt in love with traveling.

Most of the countries I visited during high school, because it made more sense to me to learn rather in the world than behind a desk. When I turned 18 (still at high school), I wanted to go to France for a language studies, but I didn´t have enough money... So I found there a job (au-apir) and decided to go there on my own.

Nowadays, I live in Czech republic, and I study marketing communications. I am glad that I chose Zlín as my city for a few next years, cause it´s surrounded by nature and not overcrowded by people. (If you can´t decide where to go on Erasmus, UTB Zlín is the way to go! :D )

I started to travel when I was 15. My first adventure was hitchhiking about 200km through Slovakia. Since then, I visited around 16 countries (list is down bellow). I should mentioned one short trip I organised for my mom, sister (7 years) and myself. We went to Cyprus, only for 2 nights but it was my mom´s first flight, and also we slept at the airport the first night, cause we came after midnight... I am glad that she went with me, because now, she is afraid a bit less to let me travel.

Also, I used to describe myself as "hippie trying to fit in the modern world". Bud don´t worry, I am not one of the loudmouth ecofanatic / vegan.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I don´t like traveling with an agency, staying in luxury hotels and being under pressure of schedule. I think that commercial travel is one of the facotrs that kills our Earth - so I am trying to live (and travel) sustainably and dicover new countries as a local.

I already had some great, but also bad experiences thanks to Couchsurfing and I still love it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

☑️ Surfing, sandboarding, snowboarding...

Just 2 weeks after 18 I packed my stuffs and went to live in France as an au-pair. It was in my penultimate year of high school.

When I was 15, I recieved a 300€ grant from the city, to make a small evening event for kids.

What I find pretty cool is that I had never any of my bones broken. But I had concussion, pierced both feet by a nail and a few more not very nice injuries.

I can play on flutes (2 different types), mouth-organ, piano and saxophone. So if you´re interested, and have one of the instruments, I can teach you.
