About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Contribute to the role of rational thought in human history.

ABOUT ME

Medical entrepreneur.

PHILOSOPHY

If I could name it via a literary reference, it wouldn't be very personal. I live my life primarily to increase the coupling between intention and reality (deciding what intention or who's intention seems premature, and unnecessary given the situation and the likely set of options). At the moment I'm feeling full but eating organic walnuts anyway. I'm thinking about whether I can let my hands go and type the rest of this profile automatically, and whether that would work better or worse than doing it by thinking.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I continually make introductions, build teams, and communicate and assist in the realization of business and philanthropic opportunities. I also try as hard as I can to communicate topics and concepts across the boundaries of specialty.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have tended to live the modern technological entrepreneurial life-style since 2008. This involves group living situations and frequently being bicoastal, both offering space in my home to guests who I know through my contact network and crashing on other people's couches and spare rooms, primarily in NYC, SF, and the major conference cities, LA and Vegas, but also in Austin, Florida, and throughout Europe.

Interests

History. The future. How concepts work.

Music, Movies, and Books

I just greatly enjoyed Tegmark's Our Mathematical Universe. Excellent, but it didn't surprise me much. I really want to read The Road to Reality be Penrose and the Feynman Lectures. I also want to get back into older books. I think that little good has happened intellectually this century, and really everything since WWII is deeply suspect.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once saw an otter jump out of the water and snatch a low-flying pigeon out of the air..., oh, and I also built the Singularity Summit and the EA Rationalist movement.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm one of the world's leading experts on the Technological Singularity, and on radical life extension and exotic medical technologies. I'm also very good at experimental design for investigating speculative hypotheses.
