About Me
Michal is pronounced exactly the same as "Michael."
A BRIEF NARRATIVE
I grew up on a farm in the United States. Was fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to travel and experience life beyond the small town where they live - population 500. Since moving away from home, I've found that my inspiration and dreams are not leading toward a conventional path of school/husband/job/kids/workworkwork/retire/die.
So rather than staying trapped in the matrix, I want to find a way to live before I die - seeing and doing things that make me feel alive!
To me.. this means traveling around the cool space rock we call "Earth" and finding all of the enchanting places and peoples I would never have been able to experience if I spent 30 years behind a desk.
Anyways, here I am, starting my lifelong journey of travel and self discovery.
In August I spent a few days living on a sailboat with friends and it was the most incredible, life changing experience.
This past fall (2016) I spent four months living in the Netherlands working on my fourth and final year of undergraduate study. Right now I'm at Whitworth - hoping to be out of here in May and after that.. who knows! Never one to make plans too far in advance; "Routine is the enemy of time."
My real interests and fascination lie in ways of thinking about our world, existence (is there a point?) and the unique patterns that define individuals and allow us to connect with one another.
That was a bit more than "brief," but maybe now you have a better idea of me :)
"PHILOSOPHY"
In terms of thinking, I am as open minded as they come. Or at least I try to be..
Politics and religion are a couple of institutions I've never felt strongly about, but I reeeeally love discussing them. Polarizing topics are the most fun to dissect.
I like to think I'm the easiest person in the world to get a long with, preferring to live simply, and above all love nature.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
REALLY NEW TO THIS SITE/CONCEPT
But I think its amazing..
Want to meet people who inspire,
See new places through new eyes,
Try things I've never done before - step out of that comfort zone
& see the this beautiful floating rock I've just so happened to be stuck on🌏🌍🌎
Interests
Golf is life... & exploring is pretty cool too
Occasionally play chess,
Walk through the trees,
Have conversations about existence,
Swim naked,
Animals of all sorts, but birds are iffy - nearly lost a finger to a parrot
Music, Movies, and Books
Anything that's going to make me laugh, cry or feel -- INFP things
Harry Potter was my childhood,
Ishmael was the best book I've read recently.
Bit obsessed w Red Hot Chili Peppers after seeing them live in Antwerp. & Bastille is another one of my favorites, but any and all music !
Fascinated by all creators and artists, possessing little visually artistic ability myself.
Movies? Comedy, drama, sci-Fi, thrillers - love a movie that will blow my mind
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Being born. That in itself is pretty miraculous..
Changed my name when I was 3, which is kindof crazy. I like to think life is more exciting as a Michal, than it would've been as an Emily ;)
I've repelled off a castle wall.. anything for the adrenaline
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach me to surf, sail, climb things, or fly.
Want to hear stories about distant places and cultures...
I can teach anyone how to golf
Book suggestions? Always in need of a good read
By no means a chess master, but I've been known to ponder over a board.. if anyone is up for a match !
What I Can Share with Hosts
I know a lot about farming.. not sure that anyone cares anymore
More than willing to cook for you :) nothing too fancy but tasty
Hoping to share in memorable experiences! Whatever constitutes "memorable".. but something out of the ordinary, please.
Conversation.
I am always up for a good debate and will happily play the devil's advocate .. challenging preconceived notions is so much fun.
