I am aware. I am very centered. My friends call me BIG MAN is because of the height but especially for my spiritual gifts. Actually I am a giver and consequentially the best hosts you could imagine, proof of the pudding.

I grew up in Sicily, and in this island when someone invites you to his house the guest always brings something. Gifts such as eating or drinking or offering something or its time. All this in recognition of the landlord.
There is a saying that says: the guest must always knock on the door with his feet.

Anyway,just for the couchsurfing beginners, the travelers used to buy their staff to eat and drink and one at least once during their stay they offer a dinner to the host. (although it seems to me quite obvious that it works like this everywhere in the world )

plus you have to think that by coming to my house a week for example, you are saving 200 to 400 euros.
Moreover, if you consider that you will have the opportunity to do private excursions with a personal guide in places unknown even by the locals; this is priceless. Or better excursions like this (which do not exist anyway) you can also pay 300/400 for two people. So on a typical day, living at my house, you are saving an average of 100 euros each.
At the root of all this, it seems obvious to me that you should sponsor food, drink and gasoline (always if you haven't rented a car). It's okay not to earn but it doesn't even seem right to lose money.

I am a very generous person and obviously I would very love to be able to invite you every day spending the average of 20/30 euros but in a month they would be 900eruo! So unfortunately you will understand that it is not possible! And then...the best things in life are free!!!
